Baggage Claim to Arrivals.
She shifts restlessly in her seat.
Mercilessly cursing under her breath.
Trying to take stock of her fretful nerves and frizzy hair.
She concludes to dump the blame on reasons greater than ones that could be reasoned with.
The gloomy gray weather and the incessant rain had to take the fall for her raging emotions.
They were now more than privy to her weaknesses.
Knew all the right switches.
They maliciously turned each one of them on and watched from above as their chaos theory played out rather beautifully.
The expected catharsis made its way a thousand miles away to her only pacifying bet.
Longing is best expressed to its subjects, she decided.
The drill was a well practiced one
She would struggle with her explanations, leave her statements open ended or just say the same thing over and over again, until already known facts were now engraved in stone.
Though something changed mid-course.
For the first time, yearning wasn’t about the extent of distance that separated them or eons that had passed since warm words were exchanged and received in person, instead of their overheated devices.
Exaggerated as it may seem, she construed the acts of the downpour to have left her feeling like the wait was almost over.
Like the light at the end of the tunnel, she awaited that burst of sunshine.
Like the urge to pull aside rubber blinds over the conveyor belt and look for your luggage, or just leave it all behind and bolt.
And just like that, a new kind of missing had made its way into their lives, making them wish all wait was only as long as it took from baggage claim to arrivals.
