For my people who want to start a business but think it takes alot of money...1997..As a single Mother of a 2 yr old little girl, one of my goals was to have my own Hair and Nail Salon. I had been a professional nail tech since I had left U of I working in many shops on the Southside. Namely my cousins Salon "Love My Nails" on 10141 S. Western, where I worked since 15 yrs old. My cousin Synobia was my idol. She had her own Nail Salon and was Phenomenal! She had a red BMW that had NAILS 45 on the license plate! I learned everything from keeping books, having great customer service and I could smoke some nail art! Ask any of my old clients...So I started saving. One day one of my clients asked me LaShundra do you want your own? I looked up from filing her nails and Yelled WHAT?! You know I do! Lol..she laughed too. After I finished her nails she pulled outside the salon and said that the storefront in her building was about to be free and offered it to me. She said I didn't have to pay her any rent for 3 months so I could build my Salon how I wanted it! I had 3000 dollars saved!! With that being said, it's about having resources but moreso being RESOURCEFUL!! I had a connect on salon Furniture who allowed me to put money down and pay him every two weeks until paid in full. My Uncle Rickie and My Daddy built everything for me. While I did nails they built my salon around me. The XCLUSIVE SALON 8951 S. WESTERN AVE!! That year I worked alone without a bit of a recession!
