How I see it in this instance is that, well, Sniper is not very well educated. He is still smart and a fast learner, frighteningly so. I bet he has random deep knowledge of topics he'd had to learn thanks to his job but he hasn't really studied that much nor has he spend much time with people in general.

So, he dont really have the words for what he is. He is just him. And maybe others telling him that "no you're this or that" kinda pisses him off. He tells himself that oh yeah, Spy makes sense. He's French. They're just like that. When it comes to himself he's like well I'm just a normal bloke, leave me alone.
