Oh, and - because you know I can’t not make tons of AUs and it was a while coming-

AU where the von Karma family are a vampire family. When they say ‘perfection runs in the blood’ they mean it. Miles was kept close at hand while growing up with them, and was fully turned shortly before (or after, as I haven’t played Investigations yet and I don't know the specifics) his first case/trial.

Part of him running away (and the suicide note) are him royally freaking out because now he’s coming to terms with the fact that he isn't human any more while at the same time breaking free of Manfred von Karma’s control. He’s finally able to think for himself properly and it hurts, because he doesn’t know what he’s doing, who he is, or what he is any more.

Phoenix finds out some time after the Matt Engarde trial. To say that he’s horrified would be an understatement, though not so much at the whole ‘my childhood friend is a vampire’ as ‘von Karma is now dead and he’s STILL screwing up my friends’ lives’.

Also as an additional note: Franziska is a born vampire, and the reason she calls Miles her ‘little brother’ is because he was turned after her. She’s still pretty much the same as canon apart from that, though - still with the same emotional issues, and insecurities.
