Commonly known as "Doc" Pat Dougherty is the multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter behind theyself. Currently Doc is the host of Desert Islands on KFAI and has toured the country and released records with several bands including Elle PF, Bev, and Fairfax, AK
theyself takes a page out of nearly every songbook and blends influences from blues, Americana, soul, and even a bit of house and punk rock to create a brand of dance folk that has been described as "acoustic techno" or "y'allternative"
In 2018 theyself was nominated for "Best New Band" by City Pages after they recorded their debut EP Wolf Tower one night in a hotel room on an 8-track recorder using only a pair of headphones as a makeshift microphone. Most recently theyself tracked their latest record 1500 in a touring van and in February of 2023 it was declared "Best New Music" by The Current and MSP Magazine.
