As we hit Election Day, I’ve been reflecting on my last 4 years in the public service. I worked on 3 completely different priorities in one mandate (from #youth, then #veterans, to #opengovernment global summit). They were incredible and very tough 4 years. I was hitting the ground flying. Some big highs, some massive lows and late nights. While thinking about what I could have done better, this text kept coming to my mind. As a #minority in many aspects, having the chance to work on these files was a gift and empowering people was my biggest reward. So I’m sharing this in the hopes we empower more people. My ❤️ could explode of joy. #AIESEC was the student-run organization that brought me to #Canada. These 18-22yo kids from across the country made it happen and became my friends, family, and inspiration. We reunited yesterday and although we are spread all over the world, what brought us together hasn’t changed: our ambition and passion about making the world a better place and developing ourselves and others. Essas crianças de 18 a 22 anos me ajudaram com o processo de imigração e se tornaram meus amigos, minha família e inspiração. A gente se reuniu ontem e, embora estejamos espalhados pelo mundo, não mudamos o que nos uniu: nossa ambição e paixão em tornar o mundo um lugar melhor e desenvolver a nós mesmos e os outros. 10 years ago today, I arrived in #Canada at age 21. I was wearing white pants, bright sneakers, a light sweater — it was “spring” in my Brazilian mind. Ordered French “crap” (aka crepes). Had no luggage (thanks AirCanada), no clue how to call, reach the airport, take the bus, bank, RIEN! I started from -1. In these 10 years, I got to support the Prime Minister and to receive a direct call from Minister @scottbrison (who I am lucky to work for), asking for my advice and help. When I look back trying to understand what I did, it all came down to what YOU did. The people who stood beside me, who taught me, who believed in me and called on my BS. THANK YOU. WE stand together. #immigrant #globalcitizen #thiagoMoment 10 anos atrás eu me mudei para o Canadá. Eu estava vestindo calça branca, tênis branco, um suéter - era “primavera” na minha mente brasileira. Não tinha bagagem (graças à AirCanada), nenhuma pista como telefonar, chegar ao aeroporto, pegar ônibus, banco, RIEN! Eu comecei de -1. Nesses 10 anos, consegui trabalhar com o primeiro-ministro e receber uma ligação do ministro Scott Brison, pedindo meu conselho e ajuda. Quando olho para trás tentando entender o que eu fiz, tudo se resumiu ao que VOCÊs fizeram. As pessoas que estavam ao meu lado, que me ensinaram, que acreditaram em mim e que puxaram minha orelha quando precisei. OBRIGADO.

#Inspiration... When many are struggling to secure their next meal, I have the #luxury to travel to #NYC to be inspired, to consider what I want to do with my #life, where to make a difference. While this all sounds #positive, I’m learning that my first step is being #honest with what/where I’ve been inauthentic. This is #scary as scheisse... but must be done. #Volunteering. I went back to the #alternate high #school I did a talk last year. This time I told them that they were not just the “#special” kids, they were the super-heroes with the greatest challenges growing up. I shared the dark side of my story too, I guess we all have it. I felt so vulnerable, but it felt real. That’s something I really love doing. “Hard back, soft front, and wild heart”. #thiagoMoment #Voluntariado. Eu voltei para a escola alternativa que dei uma palestra ano passado. Desta vez, eu disse para os estudantes que eles não eram apenas as crianças "especiais", eram os super-heróis com os maiores desafios . Eu também compartilhei o lado obscuro da minha história, acho que todos nós temos esse lado também. Eu me senti exposto e vulnerável, mas a experiência foi real.

FEAR STORY. #handstand workshop... the teacher was saying “for some, the hardest part is facing fear...” Loud noise, POW! I’m on the floor after falling. The teacher continues “well, some are just fearless... are you ok?” I looked at her and said... “yes, gotta learn to crawl before I run. #Namaste” #yoga #thiagomoment

Being authentic requires great bravery. Today, I participated in an historic apology from #justintrudeau to the #LGBTQ community. I had tears in my eyes as I heard the struggle people went through to be able to love whoever they wish. Today was a reminder that we all need have a role to play on #inclusion. Let’s stop the judgmental voice and just listen to those we think are “different” from us. Ser autêntico exige grande bravura. Hoje, participei de uma desculpa histórica do governo canadense para a comunidade LGBTQ. Eu tinha lágrimas nos meus olhos quando ouvi as dificuldades e as humilhações que muitos enfrentaram para poder amar quem quer que desejassem. Hoje foi um lembrete de que todos nós temos que incluir o próximo. Vamos parar de julgar e apenas ouvir aqueles que achamos serem "diferentes" de nós.#thiagomoment
