Louis breathes in the smell of her shampoo. Blueberries and something that’s just so Eleanor that makes his chest swell with love. He kisses her shoulder and pulls her against him. It’s been a long time since they had been intimate and he had missed her so much. He hopes that this means they can put everything behind them and move forward.
That dream is shattered though when she gets up and starts to get dressed without even looking at him. He pushes himself up onto his elbows and watches her, confused and disbelieving. “Where are you going?”
She doesn’t turn to meet his eye or even stop getting herself redressed. She doesn’t even answer him until she’s fully dressed and standing in the bedroom doorway, back still facing him.
“This doesn’t change anything, Louis. I’m still serving you divorce papers.”

12. Things you said when you thought I was asleep

“Louis?” Liam’s voice is soft and as quiet as possible. He doesn’t really want Louis to be awake, but he won’t be devastated if the boy answers either. When he gets no response, he figures his friend is more than dead to the world.
“So we’ve been doing this whole friends with benefits type thing since… Since Zayn left and I just wanted to know if I’m just a replacement for him? I mean, I won’t be upset. These past few months have been the best time of my life, but I need to know if I’m getting in to deep. I told Sophia about it since it didn’t seem right to not tell her, you know? She said she’s fine with it. She actually seemed surprised that we hadn’t already been shagging.”
Louis shifts in his sleep and Liam eyes him carefully. He waits another moment until his friend stills once more.
“I asked her if you could love two people at once because I do love you- you’re my best mate. She laughed at me and said no. She said that I was confusing sex for feelings. I guess maybe I am. I know you had a hard time this year since Eleanor left and then Zayn left a week later, but I guess I just need reassurance that this isn’t going to end like those cheesy movies where the friends start sleeping together out of boredom and then they both catches feelings but the one tries so hard not to show it and ends up hurting their friend and… I guess I just don’t want to get hurt and I definitely don’t want to hurt you.”
He reaches out to push the fringe off of Louis’ forehead so he could get a clear view of the boy’s peaceful expression.
“I’d leave her if you asked me to. I would. I would give up anything and everything to be with you, but you’d never ask that of me. You’re too nice. You always sacrifice your happiness for others, but never ask for the same in return.”
Liam sighs and kisses Louis’ temple before turning away from his friend and trying to go to sleep.
Louis’ cracks an eye open and does his best to keep his tears at bay. In the quietest voice he has, he makes his plea.
“Stay with me forever.”

7. Things you said while we were driving

“I think you’d look great pregnant.”
Eleanor keeps her eyes trained on her phone as she tries not to show him how much that sentence alone effected her. They were on their way to dinner after dropping Freddie off with his mother and she had made a one off comment about how she can’t believe Briana looked so good after being pregnant.
She knew, of course, that there was probably a lot of work put in on Briana’s part to look that great, but she was still floored. She often joked that she would understand if Louis wanted to hit that again, but he would always frown before taking her hand and holding it tightly.
“I’m serious. I think that you pregnant with my kid would be the best sight I could ever see. I remember when we had that scare right before we broke up, I told my mum that I wouldn’t even care if it ended up being true because the thought of you carrying someone that we created out of love? God, when that happens it’s going to be my favourite look of yours.”
Eleanor reaches over for his hand and runs her thumb softly over the ‘E’ he got tattooed on himself. “When that happens?”
Louis let’s his eyes dart to her quickly before looking back at the LA traffic. “Well, yeah. I sort of figured we were going to start a family one day. I just thought maybe… You know.”
“Yeah… Yeah, I know.” She smiles and sits back and continues scrolling through her phone.
