Thrice - Hoods on Peregrine
This is the first song by Thrice I was ever shown and I'm not entirely sure if I was shown any other song first, that Thrice would have had the same impact on me.
Hoods on Peregrine showed me a whole new side of music, still very conscious and political like the punk rock I feel in love for, But there was so much more in this song. it seemed like I was being given so much information in every line of this song, the instruments do something that punk just honestly cannot. everything in this is illustration to me. The words are written in such a way I can see so many meaning or ways to take each thing said and all are correct but nothing it said straight out, its so poetic and hidden behind meaning and meaning with symbolism that reminds me of how alchemist wrote in code. This song is painted in surreal colors and tones, splattering across the void and yet at the same time there are paintbrushes dancing in fluid emotion, all the while I'm moving linear down the path of this song, seeing the images portrayed by words popping up in dull midnight blues and subtle winter evergreens. The drums and bass pump together of earth and fire for anger and power holding you to the fluidity and static of words and electric guitars.
I remember when Kale and I used to play music together in his shed and the day he showed me his drum cover for this, and though we've played lamb of god before hand, this was just so much more spectacular. I knew instantly at the beat of the floor tom making a rhythmic beat with the kick what was happening and my energy just soared as my ears perked in delight.
Something's gone terribly wrong with everyone; All the world is mad. Darkness brings terrible things; the sun is gone - What vanity! our sad, wretched fires.

I know one day, all our scars will disappear, like the stars at dawn And all of our pain, will fade away when morning comes And on that day when we look backwards we will see, that everything is changed And all of our trials, will be as milestones on the way And as long as we live, every scar is a bridge to someone's broken heart And there's no greater love, than that one shed his blood for his friends On that day all of the scales will swing to set all the wrongs to right All of our tears, and all of our fears will take to flight But until then all of our scars will still remain, but we've learned that if we'll Open the wounds and share them then soon they start to heal As long as we live, every scar is a bridge to someone's broken heart And there's no greater love, than that one shed his blood for his friends We must see that every scar is a bridge, and as long as we live We must open up these wounds When some one stands in your shoes and will shed his own blood There's no greater love. We must open up our wounds.
