Phobias: basically everything, Melaine is a mess of pent-up anxiety, but her biggest fear is Brinley getting hurt by doing something stupid
What They Would Be Famous For: being queen even tho a lot of her subjects don’t really like her that much (because her father was a servant of the peasant class)
What They Would Get Arrested For: probably for experimenting with dangerous magicks
OC You Ship Them With: Brinley, of course! They’re girlfriends and very much in love, even if Brinley is always worrying Melaine sick with her brash behavior and savior complex

Why Someone Might Love Them: Melaine is just a darling sweetheart who cares about making the world a better place so that humans, demons, and fairies can all live in peace together. Also she’s smart and imaginative, so she’s always experimenting. And even she’s afraid, she pushes herself to face her fears. (I mean, she kind of has to. She has chronic anxiety so she’s always afraid.)
Why Someone Might Hate Them: I don’t know why anyone would hate her??? I’m only sort of kidding. I mean some subjects hate her for a stupid reason (her father being a peasant), but maybe others might find her annoying. She does tend to talk a lot, especially when she gets nervous. She’s a nervous rambler, and if her anxiety gets really bad she can’t seem to shut up even when she wants to stop talking
How They Change: Melaine goes from serving a very passive role (being a princess) to a very active role (being crowned as queen). It challenges Melaine a lot, because she’s so used to helping people from the sidelines, that’s where she feels most comfortable. Her 25th birthday/coronation is such a pivotal moment for her because it forces her out of that comfort zone
Why You Love Them: Melaine is great! Honestly though she’s probably my favorite character from this story because she’s just so charming and full of positivity, and she tries her best even when she’s scared (which is all the time, basically). I wanted to write a cowardly character who tries to look at fearful situations as adventures, and uses that positive mindset to grow. Also the way she dotes on Brinley is so cute, Melaine is so inspired by her seemingly fearless girlfriend, and they’re a very complementary duo. I’ve decided their ship name shall be brinlaine
