He wants to do something meaningful with his life. That didn't particularly include anything so crazy as getting involved with magic, murderers, and world ending things. And yet if everyone thought 'someone else will deal with it' and nothing would get done- So he has to do something, but its not like he equipped to handle this no matter what people say about him!
