not a speedrun but wanna get her up reasonably quick to get onto ripping out openrc and replacing w/ s6 (one day i might give both an assisted (via use of defaults, prebuilt binaries etc.) and a full manual run a go for funsies)

I broke down my laptop the farthest down into components I ever done the other day.
One of the display hinges was broken and I was trying to replace it with one from another laptop of the same model with a non working display.
It was honestly scary but beautiful.
I just used the steps outlined in the official Hardware maintenance manual available for all thinkpad models.
It didn't warn me that the front part of the cover at 8 was attached to the lcd panel with some kind of double-sided tape that I had to pry loose.
Finally the hinge was uncovered and I could replace it!
I didn't break anything worse than one or two of the tiny plastic latches on the cover:
Perhaps not even thinkpad plastic can live forever without getting somewhat brittle.
Now this beautiful computer from 2008, one of the last 4:3 models they made, can live on for more years to come.
