Reading a lot of articles about synaesthesia lately (between sorting out bilingualism, dyslexia and Tourettes PDFs for Cristina, a lecturer I'm working for this summer). I feel like the more I read about it, the more confused I get! But not in the usual way. I feel like I can't ask questions about this, since it's so abstract, and there seems to be so little good research on it.
I would love to be able to base a project around synaesthesia (and if it crossed over to one of the topics above too, then awesome - I've had two people offer to supervise me, both of which are language researchers), but I feel like not only do I not know where to start, but I can't get a grasp on just what needs to be answered about it.
My current idea is to look into what kind of synaesthetes are produced by a new method of creating pseudo-synaesthesia that's come out of the University of Amsterdam, but I have a feeling that might already be something that you can tell from their data (still reading it all). Also, I currently have no idea if researchers have even put forward suggestions as to why there is a differentiation in where people perceive their... colours, let's say. Reading a lot about that, but there's always that sinking feeling that you'll get right to the end and someone's already answered it. xD
I'd love to be able to talk all of this over with some people, but again, no idea where to look. xD Perhaps that will come later (though, if anyone here want's to chat, by all means, talk my ear off).
