Sam (or Samatha in some sources) from The Thirteenth Year as a mermaid. This was inspired by a plot point in mermaidhotty's fan fiction The Secret Lives of Fish (A Sequel to The Thirteenth Year), where Cody Griffin's electrical pulses have an unintentional side-effect of turning regular humans into merfolks.

Now, the dosage of this electrical impulse affects how much of transformation you get. For Jess, the electrical impulse used to save his life gave him the ability to swim far better than before, and hold his breath far longer than usual. But he hasn't gotten enough exposure to receive scales and a tail. But Sam is a different story due to being Cody's girlfriend. She frequently interacts with him many times and even starts to like the electrical kisses from Cody. At first, the transformation is rather slow and gradual, much like Cody's, with small sets of pinkish scales appearing on her wrists, her need to be hydrated, and eventually her feet turning into flippers.

However, and this is a minor spoilers, although the story does end with her keeping her mermaid metamorphosis to be with Cody on both land and sea, it never actually shows her fully transform and instead we are left to the imagination of what happens between the ending and the epilogue. I would like to know her first time swimming as a mermaid.

This naturally leads me to design (or should I say, redesigns since I find my old artworks could need a little tune up) Sam's mermaid based on the description in the fanfic. Of course, all I got for the description is a "iridescent silver and pink scales". So I leaned towards Sam have more silvery pinkish tail and fins compared to Cody's silver-blue. I also noticed that Cody's biological mermaid mother's arm fins are not as sharp as Cody's. They're more round and soft. So naturally, I decided that Sam would have these fins since she would be a mermaid as well.

The hair was a pain though. I had to figure out how long hair like her would flow in that position. Took many tries to get it right.

I should also note that Sam's redesign mermaid form is actually first one I made, with Cody being the second to complement her design. As for the pose, I remember that I was inspired by a google image of a mermaid I saw, but it has since disappeared and I don't remember who took that picture.

man ever since i was a preteen i was always jealous of the Thirteenth Year kid turning into a damn merman. I would've gone to live at sea for damn sure. I wonder what that actor is doing now. imagine he gets involved in a way-later sequel where his own daughter begins to go through the changes. C'mon. the only sequels we should get is of older movies. please. more mermaid media. the children crave the aquatic world.
