Those mudbrick tunnels are places of reality bent and shifted. Portals, almost, if you will. To the next step in the journey. They'll show up in different spots for Avery. Different places. A different way to the King. It makes a different path to itself. Avery takes a different path. Turns right instead. So the King bends space around him in order to lead him to it. There is no escape. There is no escape.
There will be one final crossroads. And I believe that is the only point you ever truly get to make a choice for your own. One tunnel leads into a strange darkness. The other back to the mine.
And curiosity pulls you in and in and in to the black.
It's up to Avery to choose if he will be the dead cat. Or the one that will never know the truth.
