The moment the cart titan appear to retrieve Jean and the others, Jean throws Floch aside and yelled at him with something that looks like anxiety for me (I think ?). It's kind of weird because I don't understand Jean's reaction on this panel. Why was he seems anxious for Floch ? Or perhaps it's just me but what are your thoughts about it Mom ? Thank you in advance !
It’s confusing because all the planning happened off screen so we have to fill in the blanks.
Jean knew the Cart was coming. He knew that he, Yelena and Onyonkapon were being transported to Hange’s location. The planned execution of Yelena and Onyonkapon must’ have come with enough advanced warning that Jean and Hange had time to set that up and work out the details. Also part of the plan was for the retrieval to create enough of a distraction so that the Jaegerists wouldn’t see Armin, Mikasa, Annie and the others riding away to find Reiner before regrouping with Hange.
grumble grumble all of that planned off screen grumble grumble
Floch wasn’t invited to the reunion party, so it makes sense that Jean pushed him out of the Carts way. All I can figure from his expression that preceded it was that either the instructions from Hange were “act natural” or else seeing the Cart Titan coming racing towards you with her mouth open would be terrifying regardless of how well prepared you are.
