I cope with physics by pretending humanity is on the line if I don’t understand how it works
saw somebody say their gender is autistic and like why am i feeling that
Hello! So - you said you wanted to be told how to feel about Mark having an affair and the truth is nobody can tell you that, but I can tell you how *I* feel and hopefully that will help and it isn’t overstepping or anything.
I haven’t read the book but I listened to the original Audible thing that became the book and certainly in that text he never excuses it, never gives any indication that he thinks it was anything other than a heinous thing to get into, and the hurt he caused is and always will be a gigantic source of regret and self reproach.
We can never know everything about somebody. But for me, his honesty and pragmatism are what mattered; there is no excusing infidelity, and so he doesn’t try to, and it’s very much up to him and his family to have feelings on, and from what it seems, they have worked through it.
For me generally, I am able to easily forgive indiscretions or mistakes when someone has obvious regret for the impact of those mistakes. Of course he doesn’t regret being in love, or having happiness, but it’s not straightforward. Things rarely are.
You’re allowed to feel disappointed, but it doesn’t need to be hatred, unless it helps you. And without wishing to massively overstep, if you massively struggle to find the balance between those things, please could I suggest taking a look at some principles of dialectic behaviour therapy to maybe help you to identify where two opposing things can be equally true, and to help you sit more comfortably in that space without needing to split to All Positive or All Negative, which can be a distressingly impossible task sometimes and it sounds like that sense of “which stance is correct” might be the main conflict you’re feeling right now.
Anyway sending you warmth and gentleness, and hope you find your path through this, because I can tell how upsetting it is to you and I do really understand.
ily and i love this /p
it’s not necessarily that i’m trash at distinguishing emotions, but that i resent feeling upset about it at all, because he’s been important to me and it feels now that knowing this is sort of,, taking him ? i feel Different and i didn’t sign up for it /lh
anyway. i really appreciate this. been trying to rationalize it (which isn’t the answer) all night. and i’m so shit at forgiving anyone, i hold grudges for my friend with amnesia because I Never Forget /lh
(also, “unless it helps you” WARMS MY HEART /g)
if you're ever sad, just look at pictures of Enkidu. And they'll make you feel better again
Oh MYGOD his forearms are massive
Fandom isn’t just an exchange of goods it’s also just taking time to indulge in a piece of media that you enjoy and can enjoy with others, regardless of what you “give back”. Please don’t be so hard on yourself <3
thanks anon <333
Do you listen to any podcasts that you really enjoy? Or perhaps heard any great audiobooks? I have a long commute to work everyday and I'm always looking for something new to listen to. X)
So normally my podcasts are political, but politics is exhausting right now so I’ll give you some of my others that are less overtly political. I like Rough Translation, Death, Sex & Money, and The Impact (from Vox). Very human-interest-y.
Audiobooks... Aristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, a soft lyrical romance. Artemis, a heist on the Moon. Redshirts, fabulous if you are a Trek fan. MURDERBOT, I love that funky android. Meddling Kids, for your childhood watching Scooby Doo. Newsflesh Trilogy, for your zombie needs.
ね - “a snail hiding hiding behind a nail” how cute!
