In honor of Elliot coming out, here is my (semi crack) idea on how to make Vanya trans:

First, they establish that all of the sparrow academy is trans. All of them. The cube is agender. This happens around the 2nd episode

Second, Vanya gets kidnapped by the sparrows. This takes place around episode 4 or so.

Third, the rest of that episode is just her siblings looking for her with occasional cuts to what is happening to Vanya.

Fourth, in the next episode, Vanya just walks in. Nothing dramatic. But she now has a short haircut. Cue black screen

Finally, the rest of the series has Vanya using another name and he/him pronouns. They never explain what happens.
