Hiya! If any of us have higher quality images of some of the smaller, hard see outfits, would you like us to send them to you? I have a bit clearer image of colour spread 394
Oh nice!! Yes that would be great! I'll go ahead and edit the poll to include this picture instead, thanks so much!!
Sparknotes on the Edmonton Election:
Amarjeet Sohi, a Punjabi bus driver with a litany of government-related roles under his belt, was elected mayor. He was one of the more progressive candidates on the docket with focuses around climate change, equity, homelessness and community safety (especially re: racism and hate attacks).
He blew Mike Nickel out of the water in most wards, but Nickel was a close second in a couple. Nickel is a conservative candidate who backed a lot of what the UCP has been up to. Notably, he didn't attend a majority of the mayoral candidate forums leading up to things. This is his fourth failed run for mayor.
Four incumbent city councillors were booted from their wards, and four other incumbents were re-elected. The rest of the ward's incumbents did not vy for re-election.
66% of Edmonton city councillors are now women, the largest proportion in the city's history.
There were some minor shuffles in Edmonton public school board trustees, but not much in catholic school board trustees. A vast majority of candidates for both public and catholic school trustees were strongly against the new curriculum draft put forward by the UCP.
Lastly, there were some informal, non-binding referendums: -keep daylight savings time as-is? -should equalization (fund pooling for provinces who run short economically) be kept on the constitution? -and also I guess like, a poll on who we would like in the senate, but none of those three things were legally binding so none of them actually mattered. They were all tossed in at the end by the UCP, some think as a political move, but IDK. Those official results are two days away, but preliminary info suggests that the province is pretty divided on the first two questions.
Feel free to publish this! Hope it's helpful for folks.
Thank you a ton!
@ anon who said ‘two women’ because you thought you were excluding bi/pan women but hen you thought you said syd was a woman (which they’re not): use ‘sapphic(s)’ next time! sapphic means a woman/feminine or womanhood aligned non-binary person who’s attracted to other women/feminine or womanhood aligned non-binary people! :)
I really like how you can pinpoint specific details! They’re never over the top, the give just the right amount of information about the scenery/character/plot point/emergency etc. it’s a really hard skill to learn because people either don’t pay enough attention to detail or too much! One thing I think may help you out is for you to utilize semi colons- I’ve noticed you don’t use them often and they may help you break up some clunky sentences
thank you so much, im so glad to hear that!! i’m always worried about doing too little or too much, and i’ve noticed as i look back at my writing that i do have places where i say too much or places where i gloss over it a bit so it’s definitely something that im always always always working on and looking to improve upon 🤧 and GOD yes you’re so right i need to use semi colors more bc i tend to be long winded as it is and that would be V Helpful for those long sentences 😅 expect to see more semicolons from ya girl soon 🧐
tell me one thing you like about my writing and something i can improve upon!
Knight? Olympus? Vanda? Quill? Magnolia? Rosemary?
These are absolutely lovely!! You know, while I have decided on a last name, I would love to use one of these for a middle name. Olympus would be super cute, considering his first name is literally based off of a Greek God's (Helios). I also love Rosemary, considering the fact that Helia is rather bad with plants. (Lowkey dramatic irony!) Thanks for the suggestions! His name is coming along well ♡
It's ok if you can't do certain things right now! It's gonna pass; you'll take your shower, even if it's not today. It is going to get better again. You're still doing something though, it may be "just being on tumblr", but by making posts and reblogging stuff you can help many people who might feel the same way! So don't feel too bad please. You can do it!
I really needed this, thank you!
