On what was one of the busiest weekends in the Fountain's history, plenty was going on in the league too: three games may have been more or less blowouts, but the other three stayed neck and neck right up until the last day! Here are our week 5 scores:

We'll start with Brian and FZLD: after Dom and the THIRD Floor Rocky Standups jumped to an early lead on a 90 pt Monday, Brian somehow managed to slowly creep his way back into the game before finally taking the lead halfway through Sunday and managing to improve to 5-0, despite slipping down a spot in total points scored for the season and remaining at the lowest spot for total points against. Not that any of us are bitter or anything. As in that game, and all Vanilla/Hydrox games last week, the Vanilla division reigned supreme, and important stat of the week #1: Vanilla has as a division gone 8-0 against Hydrox in their first 8 games. TMAC, the new Hansel award winner for the week (and the first to hail from anywhere but the Chocolate Division), won against HBK with the second highest score yet this season, despite having several starters in the lineup on the DL, with Bryce Harper's monstrous 6 homeruns in 3 games helping propel her over HBK despite some fantastic pitching by the Heartbreakers. We also had CHRI going up against the increasingly misnomered Boy With No (actually 2 now) Wins, and despite carrying a narrow lead from most of the week into Sunday, Ricky was unable to hold on and fell to 0-5. For what it's worth Ricky everyone's pulling for you by now. Meanwhile, WOOP managed to stifle a comeback attempt by COB late in the week: both had masterful weeks with starting pitching, but in the end bullpen implosions did COB in. Speaking of pitching implosions, as a result of Huston Street's performance last week leading to YURC narrowly edging out the team formerly known as ECK, our beloved Zak Krone has left the league and has turned ownership over to Paul the Magic Octopus, who now heads the MAGIC OCTOPUS (8ARM) team. All hail Paul the magic octopus (or in german, heil die krake Paul). Finally, between TMW and BDLY it was never really a close competition as starting pitching made all the difference (special nod to Mat Latos who put together his first two truly good starts of the season together this week), with the WARriors more playing for high score for the week after the first couple days than a win, but for the first time that TMW was able to manage the highest score in the Chocolate Division, the award of course left the division for Tonii. Once again, no bitterness whatsoever.

Important Stat #2 from last week: Of the 8 teams last week that were 2-2, 6 of them ended up losing to fall to 2-3 (the maximum possible since exactly 2 Chocolate teams would have to win), including several very high scoring teams (HBK, ROCK, and COB) who happened to just face slightly higher scoring teams. Important Stat #3 from last week: 4 of the top 6 scoring teams are 2-3, while the other two are 3-2. All in all looks like Hydrox is poised to final settle some scores this week in their matchups against Vanilla: Megan will look to stop the suddenly streaking Taylor, who could almost inconceivably be a .500 team after his 3 week winless start to the season; and meanwhile Dom, who started 2-0 but has since gone cold, running into particularly tough opponents the last three weeks to fall to 2-3, but he'll have to stop one half of the combined 8-2 power couple of Brian and Carissa. Tonii has moved into the perfect position, with more pts on the season than Brian, to usurp the throne at any point if he makes any missteps, and will look to win a 4th straight game against Jon this week. And as for Mr. Outplaying-His-Pythagorean-Expected-Win-Total himself (still not bitter), Undefeated Brian will face Winless Ricky in a marquee matchup that is the very definition of a trap game if I've ever seen one. You can do it Ricky! We all believe in you! Finally the Chocolate division will continue its infighting: as Zak and Andrew prepare to embark once again on tour, it may get heated during the drive as we'll see if the new leadership of Die Krake Paul can manage Zak his first win over a team not run by yours truly. And as for the final matchup between Lindsay and my WARriors, either outcome is honestly very exciting because the winner of this match will be the first to have sole possession of 1st place in the division this season! Who will end up being the one to, for the moment, claim the Chocolate crown? Can an octopus really run a baseball team (I don't think there's anything in the rules against it)? Can Vanilla possibly sustain this level of success over Hydrox? Can Ricky help Tonii unseat Brian at the top of the mountain? Can Meg and Dom, 2 of the top 6 scorers get back on track? All these questions and more will be answered in this week's edition of Franklin Fountain Fantasy Baseball!
