Book Recommendation

Hi. I’m back with another book recommendation, this time fiction for fantasy-lovers.

It’s an amazing series written by an Australian author and I have to say, so far it is my favourite series I’ve read. 

It’s called ‘The Medoran Chronicles’ by Lynnette Noni and it’s about a teenage girl called Alex who finds herself sucked into a magical realm called Medora. There she attends a school for people with ‘Gifts’, or special powers and learns she is not as out of place in this world as she first thought herself to be. 

Yeah, yeah, I know it sounds like the plot of tons of other YA fantasy novels, but hear me out:

The characters and writing in these books is amazing. Noni deals with issues such as grief and trauma really well, and actually addresses the lasting effects the book’s events have on characters. I found the main character Alex really compelling to follow and her growth as a character really satisfying to read, and the supporting characters really fun and lovable. 

Actually it’s a real strength of Noni’s to get you to love all of her characters, before ripping your heart in two and leaving you to cry and eat ice cream for the rest of the night.  As you can tell, I have a lot of feels about these books. 

It also has elves. And dragons. And magic swords. And cute demonic dog things that the main character adopts much to everyone else’s extreme concern. And sentient libraries. Yes, you read that last one correctly. There is a sentient library. It’s great. 

So, if you love modern fantasy, cool female leads and epic slow-burn relationships ending in the most romantic kiss I have ever had the pleasure of not cringing at, then this series is for you. 

Good gosh, I wish it had more of a fandom.

Just watched Flight Risk (that movie directed by Mel Gibson that came out last year) and I DO NOT CARE ABOUT WHAT ANYONE HAS TO SAY. THAT WAS A GOOD FUCKING MOVIE AND WINSTON IS SAD MEOWMEOW MATIERIAL

This was a freaking amazing movie and I want more like it. Comedy, action, grusome violence. I was in love from start to finish.

The Killing Stroke is my favorite story of all time, at least as of now. I could write a lot of things about it, but maybe next time (I can't articulate well when it comes to things I like). It has martial arts, magic, and questioning morality, and just all kinds of things I like in a story.

This summary is from a review: "In ‘The Killing Stroke’, three warriors from different martial traditions are trapped in such a room by a wizard. There is a Mage War going on in the land of Vesselege, which actually has five different martial arts traditions, and our protagonist, Asper, finds himself in this chamber with female warrior called Isla and a nameless male champion of Shin-te. The last is the one currently being tested so he keeps vanishing from the chamber and then returning, bruised and battered with his memory gone but evidently having been engaged in combat. To say much more than this is to spoil the story. It unfolds slowly but it was probably the best thing in the book."
