➔ AND THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES / ❝ some stories just end before they can reach the happily ever after point. sometimes, there is no happily ever after. or it may be meant to imply that the adventuring life is their happily ever after, especially if they have recently contemplated quitting and decided against it, or recently regained their ability to continue. the purpose behind this idea is to explain that the world that these characters inhabit is much, much larger than the stories that have been written about them.
this is, quite obviously, in reference to the ending on the docks ! sam turning down nathan’s offer to stay in his guest bedroom and deciding to go with sully to wherever destiny may take them next; even going and saying, “you got a few lost cities on me.” though said in jest, of course, in a much less i need to outdo him way than rafe had. basically sam trying to spend his days doing what he wished he could have been doing while stuck in prison for thirteen years —— adventuring.
