ANGER WAS MADE APPARENT IN THE TERRORIST’S TONE. Minami spoke VEHEMENTLY  ,  not even bothering to look at her new ‘junior’. He looked far too similar to his brother    :     Uchiha Itachi  ,  clan killer    !!     Of course  ,  she was CURIOUS on why Sasuke had joined the Akatsuki when he had clashed with them before     (     Deidara  ,  the crazy bastard  ,  had perished due to him     )     but the newly revealed Madara had denied Minami any explanation. Not only that  ,  she had been assigned to PROTECT the precious new asset    ---     it was an INSULT to her  ,  plain && simple.

“     Don’t expect me to do your bidding  ,  Uchiha.     ”

FAR TOO MUCH TIME OF HER LIFE HAD BEEN SPENT OBEYING THE WHIMS OF MEN. No longer would Minami endure such tedious treatment. The bare MINIMUM she had been ordered to do was make sure Sasuke didn’t die or undergo extreme injuries. ‘Fine,’ the wraith though spitefully, ‘but that’s it.’ Had it been any other person ordering her  ,  Minami would have toyed with simply taking the boy’s eyes && throwing them into the black market    ---    but the THREAT of her superiors strength was enough to keep her in line. With a huff  ,  Minami turned her sharp gaze towards her new charge. UCHIHA SASUKE    ;    an enigma indeed.

“so they’re a lil’ black round the edges.” the sheepish grin has disappeared by the time he’s rounded the bedroom door. armed with a tray of ( slightly burnt ) pancakes and tea. it’s a wonder the man had even survived all these years on his own without dying a drawn out death over some terrible food poisoning. “but nobody can say they’re not filled with ten times the effort of any normal pancake. which i think really adds a depth to the taste, yeah?” eli slides the tray carefully onto the bedside table, free hand now pushing the floppy curls off his face as he lowers himself onto the edge of the bed. and who could be angry at the shy smile, and gentlest of accents? 

“celeste is sorted. and i’ll clean up the kitchen later. you’ve got nothing to worry about.”

maybe it says something about her – that this is the part she likes. that rather than the violence, rather than the occasional moments of victory where someone with a body untrained for war mistakes a lucky shot for an act of heroism, the quiet moments where it comes down to kara and loose end she’s chosen to unravel are her favorite. 

there’s no thrill to be found in unbridled aggression, however fluent she’s become in the art form of it and however inclined she is to take pride in her own skill. maybe the years she’s spent inflicting harm have made her world-weary, tired all the way down in her bones – or maybe it’s nothing so played out. maybe she’s just bored with it, averse to the predictability.  

it is kind of the same story over and over when she thinks about it: she and logan find monster, she and logan fight monster, kill monster, bury monster, and then sew each other up before embarking on their search for the next one. at least this part is interesting; you could spend days and weeks and months chasing one myth all the way back to its source, uncovering the history behind an artifact and educating yourself as to its use. 

there’s variety. there’s a level of intellectual stimulation you just can’t get from throwing a knife at something and hoping you don’t miss. there’s more to that, of course, trust her to know just how much, but sometimes that’s what it boils down to, and kara doesn’t always want to take on faith. sometimes kara wants to make her own magic – and there is something magical in how her eyes scan the cave, picking up on details that would escape most people’s notice.
