Hurting my own feelings thinking about a scene from one of my fics where Missy takes a deadly piece of shrapnel to her midsection—without hesitation—to spare Yaz the same fate, and knowing (as the author) that the reason she did it is because she was trying to make up for Bill, because even though neither Bill nor Yaz truly matter to her in any meaningful way, they both matter deeply to the Doctor, and while she'd never admit it (maybe not even to herself) she can't bear to see the Doctor in that sort of pain again.
