Oh dear Winter..
Hey guys, just thought I’d share this with you. So, I was browsing Steam the other day and came across this game, The Grim and I, by Thom Baylay. It’s one of those completely word-based adventure game thingies which I’ll admit, I love playing.
BUT THIS ONE???
Literally my favourite of all time. I think it’s like, £2.89 on Steam rn and I believe [don’t quote me on this] it’s free to download on Android.
I’ve tried not to make it too spoilery but these are just a bare handful of the moments I love in this game. Basically, you’re the main character, you can choose your name, your partner’s name etc. But the character you’re with for 99% of the game is surprise surprise, The Grim Reaper. A customisable Grim Reaper. Like you can change the name and appearance or keep him as is. Obvi I called mine Death because...well duh. Second time he was Elvis but...anyway.
It’s got a really compelling plot that’s deeply moving but also funny in places and Death is absolutely the best; funny, snarky, sarcastic, all the things you might expect. And my god, when I say your choices matter. They matterrrrrr. I’ve played it through like 5 times now.
ANyway, rant over. Just thought I’d tell my Darksiders fans because hey, we all love Death, right? Props to the author of this game, it is magnificent. <3
omg yes pls give us the recs luv 😔
OMG OK!!!
So I’m gonna rec some of the ones I’ve personally loved. (Keeper of the Sun and Moon I don’t stop talking about so uhhh yeah, that’s high up on my list.)
So basically, what I look for in a COG book are: good plot, world building, great romance routes and (v important) non-stat focused. That is, stats determine how the story goes but don’t diminish your game experience. There is no right or wrong, only where you go from one choice to the next.
I’ve found that stat-centric books (like The lost Heir) distract me from the story-telling because I end up checking the stats page constantly.
Anyway, here goes -
1. The Wayhaven Chronicles - Obvi. Needs no introduction. Sexy romance with hot vampires and psycho killer on the loose? Sign me tf up!
These next three are from the same author (I adore)!
2. Evertree Inn - Fantasy setting, basically you check into an inn that’s been having some (supernatural) troubles. Easy to follow plot! And great (two) romance options and one non romance companion option.
3. Sordwin (sequel to Evertree) - So you’re either on your own or with your partner from Book 1. You’ve caught the attention of a powerful patron who sends you on a mission to retrieve a package from an island beset with troubles. Chaos ensues. I enjoyed this more than the first! Also, there can be a love triangle if you’re into that. 👀
4. The Grimm and I - Lesser known than the two above but my personal fave from Thom Baylay. You’re dead and the Grimm Reaper comes to help you pass to the other side. But for some reason, you can’t! This is SUCH a thought-provoking piece with funny and heartbreaking moments. I thought about it for days. This may not be a romance but fck if you don’t feel a deep connection to the grimm reaper by the end.
Some others I enjoyed:
5. Fatehaven - Also fantasy setting with some mind-bending twists! I replayed this a few times because the story goes quite a different way every time. The romance options are unique. But this is more plot/hero’s journey focused.
6. Community College Hero (1 & 2) - You’re the only regular human in a college full of superpowered teens. What could go wrong? Lots of things, apparently lol. Interesting characters, so-so plot but still fun!
If you’ll only play three things, I HIGHLY recommend KOTSAM, TWC, and The Grimm and I.
The authors have VERY different styles. So I had to get acquainted each time. But I adore them all now! I hope you will too. 💛
Dandyyy babyyyy
Meet my first Evertree MC, Adam. Paired with Dandy~
A messy, "quick" (I'm slow) illustration of my MC for Sordwin. I still wish to work on his design, and possibly re-name him. At the moment, call him Hades! I wasn't thinking much of the name when starting this time but oh well... In case you're wondering, he's paired with Captain Winter. They both be bad bad guys! 😌
Rough sketch of Dandy from Evertree saga, written by Thom Baylay! I loveloveloVe him, even tho he kept repeatedly breaking and repairing my heart over and over (bitch) T-T . But anyways-- book 3 is coming out soon, and there is a lot of characters I want to draw till then.. :D
If this isn't what Dandy Thorne looks like, don't fuckin tell me. Soooooo hot
