Obikin AU where instead of Qui-Gon, Padmé and Jar Jar getting down to search for the ship parts in Tattooine, it is QG, JJ and Obi-Wan. Anakin wants to become Obi-Wan so he tries to imitate him the whole time they're stationed in Tattooine.

Little Anakin being in awe of Qui-gon is very cute because Qui-Gon is almost the perfect savior in his eyes, he seems to have the answer to everything, doesn’t seem to get upset about his situation, and always knows what he’s doing. But Obi-wan? Obi-wan is everything Anakin wants to be. He is the young hero of all his favourite stories, the courageous knight (”Not yet”, Obi-wan laughs, but Anakin knows better,) here to fight for what is right, and even if Obi-wan seems less willing to interact with him than Qui-gon or Jar Jar, always talking about how they shouldn’t waste their time on this planet, well that’s not going to stop Anakin to pester him.

Obi-wan is way more approachable than Qui-gon and the way he sometimes seems a bit annoyed by everything (the sand, the heat, Jar Jar, his master’s decisions even?) it makes Anakin wants to bother him even more and prove to him that he’s worth something, he’s more than just a slave, he can win this race, and someday he’ll be as powerful as him, you’ll see Obi-wan! That’s why he’s also showing him the droid he’s building and his racer, and Obi-wan hates to admit that he’s quite impressed.

Obi-wan can say what he wants about him, but Qui-gon has a knowing look on his face that night when he watches Anakin trying to mimic the kata Obi-wan is doing and almost laughs when he hears him say quietly to his little shadow “…Move your left foot. Yes, like this. Very good, Anakin.”

Yes! Whitechapel is my favourite series! It's really good and Chandler is a bit like Thomas 💌 if you have the chance to watch it, do it! in LatAm Netflix are all the 4 seasons!

Ah yes! I really want to check it out at some point, but it’s a British show yes? Those are so hard to find where I live. I have Netflix here in the US but I don’t think it’s on there? If you know where else I can watch it let me know. :)

I'm from germany and the whole formal you between Anakin and Obi-Wan was never weird for me before I started watching in english. Like this was the way and I never thought differently about it. But germans do that a lot and it bothers me. Like in BBC Sherlock John and Sherlock use the "Sie" (the normal formal you) and in Doctor Who Amy, Rory and even River use it as well for the Doctor (don't know if you know either of those shows btw lol). Like they're best friends, why would they do that??

Spanish translators are just a bit better then, even if using both an informal and formal ‘you’ still seems a bit weird 

I agree with everyone, and I think they do tend to put a formal ‘You’ everywhere because without the distinction in English, we never have the transition between a formal ‘You’ used because they’ve just met/power imbalance, and the casual ‘You’ when they’re friends (I saw some doctor who episodes in french and hearing Amy using a formal ‘you’ for the doctor was indeed really weird, I can’t even imagine it with River) 

I was not expecting him to say that, if there was ONE character who would use the formal ‘you’ it would be him, but no, he’s just like ‘YO Dooku what’s UP man’ 

It can be, it’s also the norm to use a formal ‘you’ with teachers in my country, but with Obi-wan???  And it sounds even more intense in German (I’m now picturing 9-year-old Anakin being like ‘okay this cool guy is now my master, how can I show him he’s the greatest and I want to be like him? Oh I know, treat him like ROYALTY’)

you're one of those Fall Twilights that come slow and gently. that twilight that leaves you wondering what time is it, and when you check, it's barely 7pm. you feel safe then, the sun won't bother you anymore and there's still plenty of time to keep doing things.

*rubs hands together in glee* Ok! So - we have to start off with Thomas’ grandfather, Sir James Hamilton, the 1st Duke of Hamilton. James, as it happens, died without leaving a male heir. He had a daughter, though - Anne (Archibald Hamilton’s mother), and a brother, William. When James Hamilton (yes, I know, I made that noise too) died, the dukedom went to his brother William. William died in 1751 during the last battle of the English Civil War - without leaving a male heir. Anne took the title as James’ surviving eldest child - but what if William had had a male heir, only that heir was born AFTER William died? 

It’s well within the realm of possibility - William wasn’t old when he died, he was only 35, and if his only son had been born, say - two months or so after he died, possibly a little longer - it’s well possible that the family, scrambling to a. protect the child and b. recoup their losses after the war went against them, would have settled the title on Anne, thereby giving the Parliamentarians no reason to come after young Alfred - and no reason to come after Anne, because she was a woman and they would have hesitated to have her imprisoned as they would have a male heir to the title. When Charles II came back to the country, the matter of the title would already have been settled - and Alfred would be neatly out of a title that should, by all rights, have passed to him had things worked out differently. It makes sense that a certain amount of money - a lot of it - and the title of Earl would have been given to Alfred to offset the loss of the larger estate and the title, but he probably would have spent the rest of his life feeling cheated of both, which helps to explain part of why he’s such a massive prick.

Also, all of this plays nicely into my theory of how Alfred is a Jacobite, because his family was well known for their sympathies, and if his father died fighting the English Parliament, he’d be anything but sympathetic toward the people that booted James II off the throne and put his daughter and son-in-law on the throne instead. And if Alfred was a Jacobite, that explains why he went so nuclear on his own son when there was the hint of political scandal attached to his proposal for Nassau - Alfred wouldn’t have wanted anyone looking too closely at his personal affairs if he was committing treason in his spare time.
