Part II focuses on his experiences and beneficial or debilitating effects caused by his use of opium, in two major chapters, "#ThePleasuresOfOpium" and "#ThePainsOfOpium". I liked the comparsion of opium and wine in the former. "The Pains of Opium" is the best chapter, a fascinating and enchanting narrative including De Quincey's vivid visions, nightmares and hallucinations, blended with motley Oriental, unphysical and surreal elements, making the whole work unforgettable. The only major and annoying downside is in Part II: De Quincey's racist slur, with an air of racial superiority, describing the Asiatic races, and unintentionally causing the death of a Malay visitor.
