"Damn it."
His rare curse surprises Stephanie and she hears him drop the knife he was using to slice vegetables for dinner.
"You okay?" Her voice holds concern as she stands from the couch, setting her wine glass and script on the coffee table.
"I had a rare moment of incompetence and injured myself slightly." He walks to the kitchen sink and begins running cool water over his index finger, gritting his teeth and scowling.
She hurries into the kitchen, her bare feet pattering across the tiled floor. When she reaches his side, she sees the blood colored water disappearing down the drain.
"Let me see." Her hands gently pull his to her.
She carefully examines his finger, assessing how deep the cut is and deciding it isn't worth going to the emergency room, but it will need to be bandaged.
She begins pulling him down the hall to his bathroom, knowing there are first aid supplies in his cabinet.
Thomas watches as she searches through his drawers, pulling out different medical supplies. Gauze, bandages, ointments and antiseptics. He furrows his brows as he watches her soak a gauze pad with some isopropyl alcohol. As she begins to grab his hand his jerks back.
"You don't know anything related to emergency medical care."
She scoffs and grabs his hand forcefully, holding it tightly. "Please, I've seen every episode of General Hosptial twice. Of course I know how to help."
His free hand holds hers away, keeping the gauze away from his finger. When she looks at him, he raises an eyebrow, scowling again. "My point still stands."
"Thomas, this is basic first aid. You don't need stitches, I just want to clean the cut and then put a bandage on it. Stop being such a wimp."
He glares at her and reluctantly allows her to take his hand and begin cleaning the cut. The alcohol burns as she wipes it clean, thoroughly he thought, causing him to grit his teeth once again and his free hand clenches into a tight fist. Once clean, she throws the pad away and grabs a bandage, wrapping his finger gently and tying it off neatly.
"There. All finished, now you can go cry in your office." She pokes his stomach playfully and smirks when he glares again.
"You are an irredeemable nuisance in some cases."
"You love this 'irredeemable nuisance'."
He begins walking out of the bathroom without a glance back, his right hand toying with the bandage on his finger.
"No thanks for my heroics?" She smiles when he pauses, shaking his head and no doubt hiding a smile from her.
"I first will wait to see if I actually survive this, then we may speak of ways I may repay you and show my gratitude."
