"We're going on a picnic?" Thomas asked Emile, turning away from the picnic basket that was in the trunk in the car.
"Yup!" Emile said, giving Thomas a bright smile. "Do you like it?"
"Of course! You set this all up for me? Em, I love you so much."
Emile leant in, reaching up on his tiptoes and pressing a quick, sweet kiss to Thomas's cheek. Thomas smiled, taking Emile's hand and squeezing it.
"I love you, too," Emile said.
He squeezed Thomas's hand back, before he let go of it and reached into the trunk of the car. He took the folded blanket, tucking it under his arm, and picked up the picnic blanket with his other hand.
"Come on!" Emile said. "Let's find the best spot to sit down."
"You sure I can't carry anything?" Thomas said, shutting the trunk.
They locked the car and then made their way into the field. It was a nice, sunny day with very few clouds in the sky, so there were a few other families and couples on picnics around them, though they were all pretty spread out.
It took a few minutes, but they soon found the perfect spot to have their picnic, in a sunny patch nearby a large, beautiful tree.
Emile put down the picnic basket, and then lay the blanket down on the grass. They sat down, and Thomas gave Emile another warm smile.
"Thank you for setting this up," Thomas said, placing his hand over Emile's. "You're the best boyfriend ever."
"I can't possibly be the best, because that title goes to you. But I'll happily take second place."
"Nope! The first place spot is yours. I'm 100% sure of that."
"Well, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree," Emile said with a smile. "Even though you're wrong."
Thomas laughed. "Yeah, yeah. Shall we see what food you packed?"
"Yeah! I hope you like them."
"Why wouldn't I? You have good taste." He paused. "Good taste in food and good taste in men." He gave Emile a grin.
Emile laughed. "You're not wrong."
He then reached over and opened the picnic basket. The first thing he took out was a plastic container of cookies that Thomas recognised as Emile's home-made ones.
"Aww, you made cookies?" Thomas said. "I love your cookies!"
"I know," Emile said. "That's why I made them. It was a little difficult to bake them without you noticing, but I just waited until you were out."
"Was that why there were scented candles in the kitchen when I came back?" Thomas asked. "So I wouldn't notice the smell?"
Thomas reached out, taking the container of cookies and opening it. He took out a cookie, taking a bite out of it and letting out a happy noise at how good it tasted.
"I can already tell this is going to be the perfect picnic," he said.
