I feel like we as a society don't talk about the shit Thor put his brother through pre-banishment. I don't typically advocate for violence, but honestly, as soon as Thor told Loki to "know your place, brother," I think Loki should have been able to murder him then and there without consequence.

Only when he showed up in that TVA recap of Loki's life did I realize

I hate Thor.

His self-righteousness, how aloof and callous he could be.

Compared to Loki in front of the TVA screen, being a raw, open wound.

The seriously limited emotional range of the actor playing Thor.

I'm surprised no one is comparing how the loki series is more sbt Sylvie than loki. And how thor 4 isnt abt thor but abt jane. Bad comparison? It just seems that way

No, I pick up what you’re putting down. I need to rewatch both the movie and the series to make a more definitive statement but uh, fuck that! so we’re going off memory here:

Imho it was more egregious with the loki series. we had to be introduced to sylvie which required exposition time and while the whole Fuck Tha TVA thing effects (sic?) everyone, it was *really* her beef. Loki seemed to be pretty cool with the TVA all things considered (because ofc the god of mischief and chaos would vibe with bureaucracy) so him going against them seemed almost passive.

With Thor 4: More Thors Than Ever Before (TFMTTEB), we did need a bit of exposition for Jane’s situation, but most of the expo went towards “Lol New Asgard is so silly and Thor is so silly! He sucks, even!!” and the main issue was Gorr who was more so an issue for Thor. I’m unclear if Jane would also be a target, having the powers of Thor and all, but do the powers of Thor include godhood? Whatever! But the emotional struggle of the movie focused on her, unless you consider the core emotional issue to be Thor and Jane falling back in love or fucking whatever you call it.

But yes! I do see the parallel, for sure.

I'm curious what u think of Ragnarok because there's ppl saying ragnarok and love and thunder do the same thing like...no Ragnarok was better than this mess. still has flaws but wasn't comedy make everything a joke central

i agree that ragnarok was better than this. sadly, many things are. for example, having a rock in your shoe, finding out the hard way that you missed a spot with your sunscreen, food poisoning, etc etc.

however, it suffers from the same issues. ragnarok was like spotting and Thor 4: More Thors than Ever Before was day 2, if you catch my drift. It was the beginning of the end. Or not. I feel like the mcu had already begun to fuck around with Thor’s character prior, but I don’t have any evidence to cite because 1) I forget lol 2) i’m not going through the emotional and physical and psychological slog of checking on it.

The characterization of this new Loki from the TV show trailer seems to me like it would be a believable development if it was Thor. Someone said TR turned Thor into Biff Tannen, and the snivelling attitude (”but I won’t do it again!!”) of this Loki is similar to how Biff turns out in the future where Marty’s dad punches him out (the car buffing scene - “that Biff, always trying to get away with something”). For Loki’s arc, it makes zero sense.

There would be two main believable paths for Loki to take at this point in his life as a former overachieving scapegoat child hell-bent on impressing his family, after the development of Avengers (and TDW, though I realize that’s in this character’s unrealized future) where he was in a spiteful don’t-care-about-anything-anymore phase:

1. Either he would become a helper: Someone very compassionate who very ardently tries to keep others from going through the same hells he did - all the while being very cranky because of his still aching trauma

2. Or he would continue the spiteful arc and be super honest about any hostile intentions he might have (and hide away the good intentions to keep from being mocked and belittled for them like before).

Those are the two believable arcs because those are the paths people with his past tend to go down. He can let it turn him bitter and hostile, or kind and caring, or most likely a strange mix of both.

But the backstabbing, unreliable guy who loves to hear the sound of his own voice and tries to grovel-smile and promise his way out of trouble even as he knows he’s in the wrong? That’s Schoolyard Bully Thor’s most likely next step (and even carries threads all the way back to ‘real’ Thor with the way he convinced his friends to go with him to Jotunheim, even though that Thor was still very innocent in comparison). People who act like that are usually either former Golden Children, or people with a poor sense of others’ emotional lives who are used to getting their way with no concern (or understanding) for what it does to others. Or both. And that’s TR Thor, not Loki.

It seems like the projection of Thor’s bad qualities onto Loki, which really should only be something the fictional character Thor does, is still rubbing off on the whole narrative. It’s getting old.
