As I’m headed to bed, I have one last thought.

Gulusgammamon has appeared in times of danger in tandem of heightened emotion. Bokomon’s murder, being nearly eaten by Arukenimon, if there’s a third I forget... but Hiro’s either been feeling especially angry or terrified and in grave danger, and poof, angry-mon appears.

Perhaps Gulus’ evolution prompting is Hiro in mortal danger in a state of heightened emotion.

If he met Gammamon pre-series at any point that he doesn’t recall, what if he summoned Gulus and thats why angry-mon acts like they were abandoned?

Have they met before?

I’ve read some interesting future-tense theories between tumblr and ao3, and love them all.
