Something I hate to admit...but I love cheesy Nicolas Cage movies...
WHY? WHY do I do this to myself?
You know what you are getting yourself into EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Watching Willy’s Wonderland is exactly the type of mindless Nicolas Cage[ness] that the soul needs.
Without a word, he manages to dance and kill his way through possessed animal aninimatronics and it’s bliss. If you secretly love Hulu’s “The Hug” --- this is essentially the movie you’ve been waiting for. But with Nicolas Cage.
Underworld / Underworld Evolution
I decided to re- watch Underworld and Underworld Evolution recently and I was surprised that I still enjoyed the duo and that it didn’t age that badly (considering they came out in 2003 + 2006).
I love the extreme dark/goth moments that the vampire coven depicts - even thought I CANNOT FATHOME wearing an all black leather outfit such as Selene [Kate Beckinsale]. Let alone wearing it and jumping into the water as many times as she does in the two movies. Hell no.
Secondly, I do appreciate that they gave the Lycans [werewolves] a unique look to them. They have the familiar look of a typical werewolf with a bit of stylized new appeal.
But I cannot begin to express how much it annoys me that Michael [Scott Speedman] --- SPOILER ----- is blue as a hybrid. Why? I understand that he’s originally bit by a lycan and is in mid change when bit by a vampire so therefore the lycan values might apply to his overall change first...BUT WHY BLUE?!
Anyway. I did enjoy watching them again but I do not believe I will go out of my way to watch Awakening or Blood Wars [though I am a fan of Rise of the Lycans].
Definitely a shame that Michael Sheen’s character was not involved more... his character was perfection. Oh well.
Zach Snyder’s Justice League [Review]
Zack Snyder’s Justice League [2021] Review
I want to start off by saying THANK YOU to the universe [and WB] for letting this movie happen.
I am very much a fan of Joss Whedon but I cannot say that I was impressed by the 2017 film. I felt like I was left wanting more from the characters and the film overall, so to finally see what Zack Snyder had originally had in mind was amazing.
For those who look at the run time and say FOUR HOURS AND TWO MINUTES ..... NO. Do not fret. It honestly doesn’t feel that long and can definitely be split up based on it’s “parts”. The film has 6 titled parts and an untitled epilogue. If you want to split it up, each section is roughly somewhere between 20 and 45 minutes. So if you want to take some time to watch it, go ahead a watch maybe one or two parts before continuing onto the next. But again, I did not feel the movie overly long. Although I do admit the epilogue felt like one of the longer epilogues I’ve ever seen.
I felt this movie took it’s time explaining the depth of each charter that Whedon’s did not. I felt that Cyborg was more than a whinny emo kid and Barry a talkative klutz. In fact, Barry’s character [Flash] makes MORE SENSE if you consider his part [albeit small] in Batman vs Superman. [Forgot about that, huh?]
SPOILERS AHEAD
Barry’s powers are given more explanation in this version and you learn that when his powers are used to break the speed of light, “weird things happen” - which can include the time surrounding the event can be bent and reversed. His powers are actually put to use in the final battle scene that makes sense!
I have to admit that the movie itself definitely had a darker tone. It includes the relationship between Cyborg and his parents and goes into more depth and make me understand his suffering more. The Amazons have a larger part, and a larger death and loss which leaves an ache inside my chest. It definitely did more justice for us Wonder Woman / Amazon fans. Additionally, you feel the loss of Superman more thoroughly with the additions added to Lois Lane’s story and their unborn child. Don’t get me started on what this story was supposed to be for the entire film series!!!!
END OF SPOILERS
There is more I can go on about the difference between the two films, but at the end of the day I want to end with this - the movie was excellent. It gave me a better understand of these characters and their story arches and how everything was supposed to come together. This felt good.
It’s called Justice League - and Snyder did justice to these characters.
Vulgar Wisdoms (Book Review)
Author: Meaghan Curley
Vulgar Wisdoms
I am not eloquent with my words. They do not flow freely through me and come out in any form that makes much sense outside of my own head.
I do not have the talent that Meaghan Curley shows in her writing in this collection of poems.
Her writing is witty and fresh and does not hold it’s punches against this misshapen world. Though it’s a quick read, I found myself re-reading it already to catch more of what she left written between the lines.
This author has two other novels which I plan to further explore. I hope they are as freeing as her poems are.
To end, I leave a quote from the author.
“O poetry: how you went from rhyme schemes
To self captions is beyond me
But don’t fret dull, dead friend of English and prose
You’ll still be thought of in some hipster’s Tumblr’s posts”
