i've seen a couple people talking about how alastor isn't "the perfect feminist", and obviously i agree—however, only to some degree. he certainly wouldn't hesitate to kill a woman (in the mortal world) if need be. though in the same breath, he's more reluctant to kill women than men.

adding on to that, in the pilot episode, we see him very clearly slap vaggie on the ass and then tell her to smile. i think that's where people get the 'alastor isn't a feminist!' thing from

but we also have to remember that his tolerance and exceptions for women most definitely stem from the time and era he lived in, where women hardly had any rights. much like him as a man of color! also, if we're going by the headcanon where he was most definitely a mama's boy and his dad was absent, i think the way his mother would've raised him to respect women also played into it quite a bit!

that said, i do in some sense agree that he (very obviously) isn't the 'perfect feminist', however, i do still mostly view him a a feminist in general.

side note; obviously i know people of color were treated worse than just women in general. i quite literally just got a comment saying "you must be white", so i felt the need to clarify.

Imagine, Enid with muscles that Wednesday just stares at. Wednesdays fit, she has abs, but she see’s Enid’s muscles and her brain FRIES. Enid accidentally crushes a glass bottle in her hand cause she got too excited over something and Wednesday stares in disbelief as Enid just huffs as if it’s but a crumpled piece of paper, flicking glass to the floor and using her claws to get smaller pieces out. Wednesday watches in awe at the way her girlfriend who fainted at the sight of her murder board just casually wipes her bloody hand on her jeans and grabs another drink.

mending and skill trades

Visited my friend Sophie today, as she needed tailoring on her clothes. Life hasn't been kind to her lately, and she lost a lot of weight, so some of her clothes didn't fit anymore. I offered to tailor them, and I feel like we both win: she'll get to wear her favourite clothes again, and I have a fun little project to help her out :) So we went through her clothes, I pinned them (inside out) to her liking, and brought them home. It'll be a mix of hand sewing (for the thicker materials), and machine sewing (for the more straightforward pieces). My goal is to keep everything reversible, so if she chooses to change them in the future again, she can just seam rip it and she won't be short on material.

As a thanks, she gave me a loaf of homemade bread. Her bread is always amazing and I don't know how to bake bread at all, so I was super happy. In the bus on the way home, I thought about how great it was to trade our skills that way (and how to eat the bread). Instead of both spending money on necessities, we just traded our "silly little hobbies", which in fact are not silly at all, but real skills that can help ourselves and others. It kind of felt like a communal moment, detached from capitalism and consumerism. Am I reaching?

Thinkin about Henry and Erik and their comparison through the use of dogs.

Henry, embracing Mutt and looking after him, training him, treating him like a member of his family even though he has nothing to his name. He talks to Mutt like hes a person (as he does with a lot of animals) and when he hallucinates when drunk he speaks to a dog. He shares a love and respect for dogs with his rival cumans, something that can bridge the gap with the cuman deserters. Henry sees dogs as more than tools, just as he sees people who are less skilled or more vulnerable as worth more than what they can offer.

Erik, in his only encounters with a dog we see, is immediately hostile with it. He finds it annoying, takes no constructive discipline or attentive care to see why it might be barking at him. He doesnt even notice when it was barking at Henry who was hiding. He sees this dog as a nuisance, lesser and not worth his time, just as hes been taught to treat people. And just let how he treats all people who get in his way, he cuts the dog down in anger. This is moment we see how far gone Erik really is. Even a helpless, loving hound is nothing more than meat for the blade.

Interestingly, they use this seen to humanise Markvart. By showing him care for and mourn the dog, we see that he and Henry are the ones not too dissimilar. Henry could very well fall down Markvarts path, as u can see with the choice about burning Maleshov.

I love this use of interactions with dogs as a way to show the degree of humanity a character has.

Talked about last episode we watched yesterday with my mom this morning (S4E04)

and she pointed out something I never noticed before and that was that the writers put a big focus on how the kids end the letters, like the whole drama with El and Mike and that he always writes from Mike and she does it too then and it's hurting them both... But in Max's letter to Billy she ends with: "Love, your shitty little sister, Max"

Not only does she not say step-sister, but she writes 'love'.

The writers don't use the endings of letters randomly.

You don't write love out of guilt or hatred. This is another sign to me, that she really loved Billy and wanted him to be her friend and real brother. It is also so important to me that she pointed out he saved them all while no one else ever mentions it.

There is so much emotion in her letter, the need to update him on what's going on, to tell him what she regrets and what she wished was different.. the hope that he can hear her.. as in.. he is still there because she believes now nothing is impossible.. Saying she wants him back so everything is right again when before she said wrong was his default.

Also my mom said last night after the episode that she believes Max loves Billy a lot and she agreed to my tear theory and said he is there somewhere to me and I was so emotional TOT
