A weird Valentino quirk is that he's both a complete attention whore and also very private at the same time, some of it can definitely be defined as him just maturing with how to present himself it especially when he was younger and the frankly insane amount of attention he was getting but I also think it shows why he's so magnetic to some degree ? like yeah he's charming and interesting but also he has some sort of boy-next-door charm remaining even after decades in the spotlights that a lot of people lose really quickly
I doooo think he is an attention whore to some extent because people who aren't attention whores and put into the spotlight turn out like Casey (who's not against the attention per se but a little abrasive towards it bcs he's in this weird I'm-getting-hated-on-so-i'll-hate-back-and-then-get-hated-on-more loop but I digress) like even just the sheer amount of pap pics of Vale is just downright insane and probably enough to make people without some screws loose walk away or have a break down. Like no one was following Mick Doohan around and he was The Motorcycle Guy in the late '90s
A lot of this, I think is because that he's really really into keeping this small group of friends that he had as a kid and it kind of separates him from say the guys he was competing against for the people's hearts like Biaggi who was known to be a fame fucker. As he's stealing the limelight from Biaggi, he establishes himself as someone the normal people could root for bcs biaggi has tea with the pope and rumored affairs with super models while Valentino still hangs around with the same guy from his hometown as he had when he was still in diapers which paints a very different picture. As he gets older, of course it becomes a little different but the narrative still stays the same because he's so dedicated to this small social circle that he'd managed to construct in the start of his career
In his larger legend building thing that he does, I think this is largely a way for him not to go insane but he highlights it enough and is smart enough that it's definitely in some small way a thing for him to be like "heyyy, I'm a normal guy too" but idk I just thought in the almost narrative style that he constructs himself into a larger-than-life figure, it's interesting when he tries to humanize himself just a bit sometimes
