If you put your fingers in your ears and let the water pound on your neck, it sounds like a thunderstorm. If you lean forward it sounds like the thunderstorm is dying down, and if you let the water pound on your head it sounds like a raging beast.

Encouragment
A reminder to my discouraged writers (and let’s face it, who isn’t discouraged from time to time?):
Don’t give up. There is someone out there, probably a lot of someones, who want to read your writing. They want to read your writing. Perhaps more importantly, they want to read your writing. Maybe it’s one person, maybe it’s thousands of people. Your talent will be appreciated and loved. But only if you actually write it. Don’t give up on yourself before allowing others the chance to marvel at your talent.
Writing Advice 2.0
Describing Characters
This is a toughy for me. I know what my characters look like, how they act, their personality, but I don’t want to just vomit them onto a page screaming and covered in goop. I want to introduce them properly, allow the reader to see them for who they are and who they have the potential to become.
But slowly.
So. I’m going to share some writing advice I learned through writing workshops in college:
- write a bullet list of physical characteristics of your character, as well as personality traits and anything else that you want readers to know about your character. This list is for YOU, not your readers.
- use your List to write a blurb about your character. Not necessarily something that will go in the story, it could be just them going to the grocery store, or meeting someone for the first time, whatever.
- edit this blurb until it shines. Until you can see your face in it. Until your character is practically standing in the room with you, they’re so clear.
- Don’t use this blurb in your actual WIP. Use it to write about your character. Use it like you’d use a picture of your character. It’s basically a word sketch for your character.
- don’t feel like you have to describe everything about your character at once! That’s why it’s called character development.
These are some things that I’ve picked up that really help me. Hope it helps you as well. Happy writing, lovelies!

There are so many songs by so many artists that just get burried under all of the pop music nowadays, and I want to give some love to the more obscure bands and songs. 1. What do you do for work?
I work at a software company. I’m not a computer geek, I’m an English nerd, so I mostly help keep them gramatically in-check. But if days are slow, I write at my desk. It works out nicely.
2. If you could kill one person and get away with it, would you?
No.
3. When you use the bathroom at someone’s house, do you look through the medicine cabinet?
Sadly, yes. I also check the bathtub, just for serial killers though.
4. What’s one show or movie that everyone loves but you just can’t get into?
Hmm...does Twilight count? I know not EVERYONE loved it, in fact opinions were rather polarizing. But I haven’t watched or read it. Currently I’d say “This is Us.” Not because it’s not good, but it’s a little too drama-y for my taste.
5. Are you in a relationship? If so how did you meet?
Yes. We met at church, actually, and we’ve been dating two years this February!
6.How many relationships have you had in the past?
Just one. Not a pleasant experience.
7.Do you want to get married? have children? Have/Are you already?
Yes, this year! And absolutely have children, possibly adopt. I love babies.
8.What scares you? What brings you genuine fear when you think about it?
Losing those I love, especially family. ESPECIALLY my Fiance. He’s my world. Aside from that deep water at night, twisty canyon roads when I’m NOT driving, bees (I’m allergic), and messing up my future kids. That one’s really terrifying.
9. Are you religious? Do you believe in God/s?
Yes, I’ve been a Christian for the past 8 years.
10. How much have your past struggles influenced your writing?
Umm...to an extent. I would say my past in general has influenced my writing, not just the struggles. I try to see how I can apply every experience to my writing, or at least learn something useful.

Hair Representation
When writers say "she had messy hair" or "her hair was a mess" what they really mean I'd a mess of curls. And that's annoying, because messy curls are one of the most beautiful styles, in my opinion. Curls spilling out everywhere, unable to be contained. Straight hair when messy is flat, oily, limp, and lifeless. Where's my romanticization of straight hair? C'mon writers!
Net Neutrality
With all the talk about the Net Neutrality issues, it occurred to me: the internet is kind of like the public forums in ancient Rome or the agoras in ancient Greece. Public spaces where people to could gather to share ideas, debate, discuss theories, etc. etc. etc. It was basically like...ancient forms of reblogging and sharing and liking other ideas. And it was a freedom that could not be taken away!
Human beings need a place to do this. If we don’t have access to the internet, how are we to remain connected? It just allows the media to further feed us whatever They think They can get away with. We can only have access to what They want, thus further limiting free access to knowledge, learning, etc.
This has GOT to stop, people.
Take action. Because if you don’t now, you’ll wish you had.
