Off topic but like alchemy + amestris’s military history is interesting when you realize literally none of those conflicts were started for increased resources. Like, more land area, sure, but what even does scarcity and import/export look like in countries that have portable human presto change-o machines
YEAH i mean. it’s posited that alchemists are fairly rare, and that becoming an alchemist takes a lot of education and training, so they aren’t producing resources on a nationwide scale. People still have to farm (resembool), mine (Youswell) etc. BUT what we do know is that amestrisan conflicts - especially the border conflicts - are orchestrated specifically to lose lives/spill blood, bc nationwide array. I assume that the military does use resource acquisition etc as a cover for some of these, but bc Amestris is an artificial country, it’s not like the homunculi are that interested in expanding their territory - they want a bloody border, but within it, the more Amestris can support itself - the more its population rises - the more souls there are for them to power the final array lol
