Dinner Plans || Branwen + Rowan
The music was soft; light and delicate. Classical. Her mind swam softly with the beautiful string quartet that played from the speaker in her living room. She had asked Rowan to put something on, tired of the sounds of mortals chattering and he’d chosen exactly the right thing. It made her mind slow and relax. She took a few good deep breaths, eyes closed as she let the music flow through her. This was a good way to end her day.
The food sizzled in the pans on the stove and the wine was nice and chilled. She had wanted a nice evening, almost like a date, but could one really go on a date when one has been with the same person for centuries? It was an interesting question. The music was only a backdrop for an evening spent inside. She was so much more a solitary creature than a social one. She had very few friends and she seemed content to keep it that way. In her youth, before Rowan, she had longed for companionship, to know what it was like to have love and friendship. She had thought, that to have that you needed more than one person in your life. She had been wrong. He was all she had ever needed.
The creatures of this world were not as she would have liked. They were crude and crass. They were frivolous and wasteful. She felt no desire to truly interact with them outside of the salon she worked at. They brought her no peace of mind. Only stress, and anxiety. The creatures of the mortal world were so cruel to each other. She had no desire to interact with them. Especially after what had happened in the courtyard. Rowan was still rather bothered by all of that business.
The music changed and she focused on finishing up the food that sat in the pans and started to plate their dinner; a delicate stirfry of teriyaki chicken, water chestnuts and green beans on a bed of jasmin rice. She picked up the plates and moved quietly into the dining room. “It’s ready,” she said, her voice carrying over the music to Rowan where he had sunk into the couch reading a book.
The plates thumped softly on the table and she went back into the kitchen to grab their glasses of wine. She had heard talk today of a woman spending time with Bastian and she needed to discuss this turn of events with Rowan. See if perhaps he had heard anything.
