Say I Do? | Mischief-x-Mayhem
“Me? A.. princess? I’m not even of this realm?” Juniper asks frantically.
She now paces back and forth anxiously as her adoptive mother and father sit at the dinner table, attempting to break the news. Juniper, a mere mortal is now to be married off to the younger prince of Asgard as he rises to kingship. Her vision spins as she tries to grasp the situation at hand. “How?!”
“Juniper, would you please just sit and listen dear?” her mother speaks softly, as she did when she was younger to soothe her.
“Listen? How am I to listen when I am being thrown in a marriage to a man I have never eve met?” she snaps.
She did feel a twinge of guilt pulsing in her chest for yelling at her mother, but this was life altering news she was receiving. Even the nicest of people would be upset in this context. Surely her mother would forgive her - her father on the other hand was not so malleable.
“Is that how you talk to your mother? Please, just listen to us. Loki is in need of a wife. His father Odin and I have known each other for centuries, and I have served on his high council for years. When Frigga reached out to me, we came to a consensus it is what is needed for Asgard to continue.” Her fathers explains brashly.
As hard as she tries to listen rationally, her fathers words only graze across the top of her head. She is in full on panic mode. Exasperated, she balls her blonde hair in her fists, fingers clawing at her scalp. This is not the future she had imagined for herself. If only her twin sister was here, everyone always liked her more anyway. Nonetheless, Andrea isn’t here and isn’t the one betrothed to the future king.
“When do I leave?” she asks, eyes closed and hand against her forehead.
“Tonight.”
Those words took her even more by surprise. While Asgard’s well being is an urgent matter, she thought she would at least have a few days to cope with the idea that she was not going to be her own person for much longer. Her mind wanders to what it would be like to have to answer to every beckon that passed his lips, and for a moment she actually contemplated running away. But then an old saying her father used to say crossed her mind - be obedient, even when you do not know where obedience may lead you. Those were words her father iterated every time her and her sister were faced with a hard decision, a small saying that always brought comfort to them.
With a heavy heart, she nods her head. Her father was right - obstinance would get her nowhere. If she was chosen to help rule over Asgard, she was will have to accept the task and do the best that she can with it. She can’t help but think how Loki might be feeling about all of this. Will he be equally as obstinante about the matter, or will he be willing to accept her as his bride? Only time will tell.
