all we were ;
A yellow Nissan rolls to a leisurely stop on the sidewalk, just in front of Sandra Lyn's School of Dance. It idles for only a few minutes--just enough time for the driver to find a suitable station and crank it accordingly--before the dance studio's purple door swings open.
The Nissan's passenger window descends, and Madeline shifts her sunglasses from her nose to the top of her head as she cranes her neck to shout a greeting.
"Heather!"
She hadn't been expecting her; mostly because Maddie told her she had a shift at the animal shelter that morning. Which had been true-- at the time. Then her grandma reminded her about her grandfather's appointment at the family doctor's, which she had the responsibility of driving him to.
The shelter let her off the shift (for all she feels guilty skipping) and now, post-appointment, she has a good bit of time on her hands before she has to go back home, mock up index cards for a history quiz on Friday. Perfect time to surprise her favorite freshman, right?
( When life gives you lemons.... )
Her smile grows to a full-out grin as she lifts a hand from the steering wheel to wave a beckoning hand. "Strawberry smoothies, my treat?"
