In most local festivities, Night was not here on her own accord. Sometimes she was employed to cater the event or was dragged along by one of her very few friends. The Strawberry festival was a notable exception to this rule for one small thing: the shortcake eating contest. It fascinated her. How many denizens of Pinehaven assumed themselves capable of eating so much sugar so quickly. Her morbid curiosity always got the better of her and Night stomached such social events just to see what fiasco might happen as a result.

As another spectator appeared next to her, Night tilted her head to the side and inquired, "Wanna place bets on who's gonna barf first?"

This week had not been the best for Night. Only a few days prior she had argued with Jay at this very same carnival. Moreso, she had lost her temper. Now her sister wanted to not only revisit their favorite ride from when they were children, but (potentially) talk over lunch.

Outside the gates of the carnival, Night was unusually early. To be a little late might give Day the wrong signal: that Night did not want to be here. Which, to be fair, Night didn't really want to be here considering her mood and how little she enjoyed being surrounded by strangers, loud noises and the nauseating scent of old grease.

But she endured what was needed because she did miss her sister. Even if this meeting was imperfect and both left wanting to go back to their silence, at least Night tried to make amends.

Night puffed away at her cigarette and failed to puff away the anxiety that brewed under her chest. She peered over her shoulder and her entire being tightened when she noticed her sister approaching. It was preemptive, and maybe a little over-cautious, but Night needed to make it known.

"Before you ask, it has nothing to do with you," Night warned, knowing full well that her sister's likelihood of noticing the upset that she was trying so hard to repress.

It was sad to see such a little plant struggling. A pot too large for it. The roots likely expanding too far. And worse of all, an infestation. Judging by the leaves and its size, it was young and it didn't have a life of any kind of quality.

Willa bent down and sat besides the pot on the sidewalk. They rifled through their bag to see if they have any supplies to rid the flower from its horrible circumstances. As they weighed their options, they spoke to it as if it could hear them, "Now, who's been letting these pests get all up in you, lil guy?"

A small pop came from the karaoke machine. No matter what Josh plug into the back, the noise that came from it was either static or loud gurling noises. The pop was new. And that was probably a bad thing. He took a step back and examined the contraption. His eyes traveled down the clear plastic that exposed its mechanical innerworkings. Two hours before karaoke night; only two hours to make this work.

Josh felt his cheeks tingle and heat swell underneath his ribcage. His heart pounded. As he brought his hands up to his mouth, Josh stifled his mutterings. "It's fine. All of this is fine."

She knew very well that she was being a little bit painful right now. This woman was only the assistant and that didn’t mean she knew everything that was going on in the office, or knew of what her and Ms. Underwood discussed. But Penelope just need to know where to file so that, when she tried on her own with Ms. Underwood, that she could at least make some progress.

But Ms. Underwood was not there in the office at this moment. So, Penelope had to speak with the assistant. “I understand that it’s complicated, but I just need help with figuring out where to file. It would be much easier if Ms. Underwood was here, but she isn’t and I just would think you’d know since you work here where to file certain documents.”

On the Sunday before Temperance's birthday, Penelope had packed the two of them a nice lunch. It was never as good as Temperance's cooking, but small sandwiches on a blanket were charming. What to do for her wife's birthday had been quite easy since Pinehaven started having Shakespeare in the park during June. The biggest joy, of course, for Penelope was not to see the play, but the small utterances of her wife reciting the lines from the play as the actors performed.

"I hope you are okay with just little sandwiches, today, love," Penelope noted as unloaded the bag onto the picnic blanket, and set aside a small wrapped box. "I figures drinking wine in the day was a little tacky and just brought water as well."

"Should I be expecting you at open mic night tonight?" Joshua asked. Pride celebrations were his favorite to plan. Though, most of the events at LG Bean & Tea were catered to those who had a love of both sweet treats and camp. But why just focus on the iconic pop stars when there were countless icons here in this little town. "We are gonna do some karaoke and then turn the floor for the divas of Pinehaven to take over."

Independence was a virtue Connor held dear. She was free from any shackles that might hold her down and navigated the world by the pull of her heart and the instinct in her gut. There was trust in the universe to protect her, regardless of what higher power might exist out there. To Connor, all of that was beyond her human understanding. Yet, there were talks of someone in Pinehaven who had a connection far greater than most others Connor knew. Despite the urge to handle things on her own or simply move on, forget what had happened, her heart was compelled to seek out this someone and her gut instinct was to adhere to this guidance as law.

It was an easy choice to walk to the Nifty Naturalist compound and ask to speak with the woman titled "The Oracle". Connor approached with her fingers twisted between themselves and her head held low.

"There's an imbalance and I need guidance through it. I've been told you're someone who can help?"
