Soft spring breeze carrying the whisper of night, the gentle gleam and glow of lights that filtered through the trees and their branches. They eclipsed even the moon in their brilliance, the quiet celestial onlooker from space. It’s round being cast a glow upon the grassy fields and the gentle life as it lived in this world. The stars were little eyes that watched from the outreaches of a world he could never see, a world that may be far better or far worse than this one. A sentient being could only imagine something or another to explain the guardians of the sky. There was no reason for the ancient magus to be wandering about the forest at this late an hour, no reason at all. And yet here he was. Wandering about as if he was restless– perhaps he was. Wasn’t he suppose to be in bed right now? Chise laying beside him, their wedding bands twinkling in the faint moonlight that poured through the window, soft dreams cushioning their sleep and preparing them for another day of hard work and learning. To some extent, yes, but he had found himself growing restless while in bed.
“Where are you going?” She asked him softly. “On a walk…” He replied quietly. “Do you want me to go with you?” Chise responded, her voice groggy and her eyes half lidded and heavy, she was already half asleep when he decided to get up. “No… You stay here and sleep a little longer. You humans tire easier, and besides you are still relatively young, are you not?” She wasn’t following along with his words, not truly, but she nodded as if she was. She didn’t speak again, fast asleep suddenly, breathing gently. He watched her for a moment, the gentle rise and fall of her chest, how her hands twitched lightly with the pulse that ran through her veins, how her eyes flickered just beneath those eyelids– beautiful gemstones of dual color. Her hair spread over the pillow, strands of fire condensed into silken string, it flowed under her head like a river of elegant scarlet. He couldn’t understand the feeling in his chest, it made him joyous and yet sick all at the same time. He understood happiness now, so he could understand part of this emotion, but all the while it was confusing… He leaned over her body and nuzzled her cheek gently, careful to not awaken her from her sleeping form. ‘This is what beautiful is… isn’t it…’ He thought to himself.
He hated to leave the bed, he hated to leave the room, he hated to step into the hallway, he hated to step down the stairs– he loathed the feeling of leaving her there. Silky watched him as he left, confused and dazed as to why he was awake at the moment, but she didn’t move to stop him. She understood all too well why he was like this. While it may not seem like it, Elias was always anxious about something, he was a wise fellow despite being young compared to others and so he knew to hide it, but that didn’t stop him from behaving at times like a tiger trapped in a zoo cage. Pacing back and forth and growling to be let out or fed. He stepped quietly through the garden and out into the lush forest where he let himself disappear into the leaves. He wanted to fade away from the world for a while, feel himself in nature, feel himself back among his element of shadow. Darkness was something he always found himself comfortable with, what with how he blended in so seamlessly in the night. He was never one for healing, outside of medicine and the basic instinct that animals use, he was more of someone who would break. Him and Chise worked well together in that respect.
The darkness of the woodland engulfed him, bound him, he felt as though the air had grown significantly lighter as it washed over him. Gentle scent of honey dew, rose, poppy, and– he stopped. Red eyes glowed faintly as he saw the stranger. A book in his hand filled with sketches of… something. What it was wasn’t able to be determined from a mere glance. Perhaps something he saw, something he wanted to catalog… something he found he wanted to save in his memory… who knew, he was a character that was as mysterious as he was quiet. He closed the book and held it by his side, unsure of how to greet this stranger who locked eyes with him. They were not a normal living creature that’s for sure, they were something else entirely. He closed the book, the page had a drawing of an aloe plant upon it– healing… He was thinking about healing something or someone perhaps?
