NOTES: Samuel explains to Roxanne what happened in the hospital.

Samuel jogged up towards his large estate, he licked his dry lips as he pressed forward moving towards his gate. As he got there he jogged in place waiting for a guard to let him onto the property before he jogged his way in, he was going to jog up to the door, all the way, he told himself. And he did, jogging up towards the home seeing his beautiful girlfriend as he did. “Hey babe” he said tiredly as he moved beside her as she unloaded the car with newly purchased articles of clothing and shoes. He eyed her happily, pacing back and forth as he caught his breath. “Babe?” he repeated, as she continued to remove bags out of her new car her bought her without saying a word.
Roxanne gathered her things quietly, she went on a littler, well big, shopping spree with his Black American Express. She needed it, for he had been stressing her brunette hair gray for the past few days. Retail therapy had become a surefire way to reveal the stress and strain he brought on her. As he approached she ignored ever direct word he said to her. She was pissed off and she’d been trying not to really show however she was done playing pretend. She looked back at him at his final words and she said, “don’t hey baby me, I am still waiting for you to explain to me exactly what the hell that was all about at the hospital a few days ago” she pressed. She’d mentioned several times and each time he just danced right over the questions she had as if she didn’t deserve to know what was going on, or the full truth to the story.
Samuel sighed at her words and he rolled his neck, head falling back as his hands rested on his hips. He been trying to avoid this for a while because it was exactly a great conversational piece to have with the woman you love. Oh by the way I got someone pregnant, but not by any means did I sleep with her, but yes those are my two kids she is carrying. He didn’t know how to tell her without being sarcastic or sounding stupid. Samuel licked his lips again before he ran his hands through his sweaty hair. “Babe” she said again trying to gather his thought as he watched her completely walk away, shutting her car door in the process.
Roxanne heard those magic words again and she rolled her eyes, all her could ever manage to say these days were ‘babe’ and it just wasn’t enough comfort to offer up. She moved to close her car door shut before she walked towards the home, moving inside and up to their bedroom. If he wasn’t going to talk, then she wasn’t going to talk to him either, period.
Samuel watched Roxy and he shook his head as he moved towards the home. He walked inside and closed the door locking it behind them, he set the alarm and moved towards the kitchen. He guessed he had to talk to her about this once and for all because after all it was starting to affect their relationship and that was something he just didn’t want to happen. He was in his thirties and he didn’t have much more time to just waste goofing around. After grabbing a bottle of water and guzzling it down thirstily Samuel tossed it into the recyclables. He moved to ask his chef for a homemade smoothie before he climbed the stairs towards his large bedroom. As he entered he watched Roxanne as she unboxed and unveiled the Chanel bags, Gucci shoes, Prada purses, and YSL accessories. There was a multitude of things that laid across their bed and he figured just how they were purchased. “Baby” he started softly and gently. “Can we talk now?” he asked her. “He moved towards her and she flinched pulling away as he rested his hand against her waist.
Roxanne looked to Samuel as he entered the room and she continued her task, she was removing everything from their boxes and bag laying them out on the bed so that she could see all that she purchased before she moved to place them in the new home – their large walk in closet. As he spoke and reached in to touch her she said “no, not before you shower. You stink” she barked, as she moved around him. “Talk to me after you are clean Samuel” she said turning her nose up at him.
Samuel looked to her Roxanne as she went on about him needing to shower and clean himself before he spoke to her. He wasn’t really an argumentative guy, at least he didn’t try to be however she was getting up under his skin with her foolishness. “I want to talk about this. Because it is putting a strain on us both. Ignore the fact that I just jogged 3 miles and didn’t shower yet. This is a serious matter and I need to tell you this. The whole truth” he breathed out as he tucked his lips in moving to sit down in a chair in the bedroom. “Right now, Roxanne” he said quietly.
Roxanne looked to Samuel and she folded her arms over her chest looking to him. She squinted lightly at him as she tilted her head. Inhaling and exhaling lightly to him, she finally said. “Talk” it came out as a command and it was exactly what it was. She moved to sit on the edge of bed as she waited for whatever explanation she assumed he had concocted on his way up to their room.
Samuel sighed softly to himself, he ran his hands through his hair again before he shifted in the seat. “At the hospital we ran into someone, by the name of Mercedes. Mercedes Jones to be exact. We know each other because, subsequently she’s pregnant with my twin sons. No, we did not sleep with each other, no we don’t know each other at all to be honest, and no we don’t plan on being together – clearly because you and I are an item” he said as he sighed again. He looked to Roxanne “there was a medical mix up, somehow sperm I saved was implanted her to accidentally and now we are here” he said quietly as he searched her eyes.
Roxanne took in what Samuel was saying, she tried to make sense of each little thing he said to piece together in her own head what this all boiled down to. At his announcement, she looked to him shocked, she didn’t understand exactly what he was telling her but what she gathered from it all was that he had children with another woman all while dating her. But then she processed each intricate detail one after the other until her conclusion changed. However, she didn’t know what to really say to him at all. “What?” she asked him as she shifted on the bed. “That woman at the hospital is having your kids. Two kids?” she said raising two fingers “twin boys?” she asked him, her mind was blown completely in the moment and she chuckled. “Come on Samuel… are you kidding me?” she asked him seriously as she glared at him sitting right across from him, sitting calmly in a chair.
Samuel looked to her and he stood up on his feet turning his back to her for a second before he looked towards her again. “I just told you everything. Those are my kids. I never slept with her. And I want to be there for them. I made that decision and I am doing it for me, because I’ve always wanted kids and after all I was freezing my sperm for a reason. It wasn’t just a weird dumbass act” he told her. His tongue rolled over his bottom lip and he sighed heavily. “It is a lot to take in I know. And I should have told you a while ago to be honest. But, at that time I was not exactly wanting to be in their lives because I was scared about what people think, and how people would feel. But none of that matters! They are both my kids and I need to be there for them because…. one woman can’t do it alone” he told her outright.
Roxanne looked to Samuel as he continued to explain further what exactly was going on and she moved her hands to her hair tugging at it lightly. “Do you think I am just going to sit beside you along for this crazy ride while you bring two kids into the World with another woman?” she argued to him.
“Yes! Because I can’t control the things that has happened in my life before you. But you are supposed to love me, flaws and all including the baggage that I have” he told her. “And if you were a real woman you would know why and understand why I have to do this. And you would respect my decision” Samuel said.
Roxanne looked to him and neck jerked lightly at his comment “a real woman?” she asked him baffled by her word choice completely. “How dare you!” she spat as she shoved him roughly in the chest.
Samuel looked to Roxanne for a moment before he looked away again, as she shoved him roughly in his chest pushing against him violently. He grabbed her wrist “stop, Roxanne this is beyond you. And you can deal with it or you can walk away. But don’t get in the middle of me, my responsibilities, and my decisions!” he warned as he pushed her back away from him. “Now I think I will go get cleaned up” he told her, as he moved for their bathroom.

LOCATION: Starbucks; Atlanta, Georgia.
NOTES: Sam runs into his ex.
Walking into his local Starbucks Samuel moves for the counter, he knew what he wanted and quite frankly he had other things to do on the only off day he’s seemed to have in months. He ordered his drink, thanked the woman behind the desk, and paid. Giving his name and grabbing his receipt he moved to stand off to the side as he waited for his order. He grabbed his phone fiddling with it for a bit before he looked up sighing heavily. He needed another vacation, and bad. “Sam!” a familiar voice called out from behind him and he reluctantly turned around. He wasn’t in the business to talk and gather with others today. Beyond him being tired of work, he suddenly contracted a sleeping disorder in the past few weeks. Sleep didn’t some so easy to him anymore, for a man who never had a worry; his life had become worrisome as of late.
“Sam?” Roxanne called out again as she moved over towards Samuel with a pleasant smile. “What are the odds of me running into you here of all places” she chuckled slightly as she looked to him. “You look exhausted, did you order yet? I think I could afford to get you a venti sized white mocha latte” she told him thoughtfully. She shifted on her heels, purse on the crook of her arms, as she waited for her drink order as well.
Samuel looked to his ex, he took her in she was still as beautiful as ever. Taking his breath away with each stride she took towards him. He watched her as she spoke, barely listening to what she actually had to say as they stood there together. “Uh, I got my venti white mocha latte” he told her with a smile. “Maybe the next one” he suggested to her. “You know my line of work however, coffee can’t fix that trust me” he told her seriously as he shook his head a bit. “It’s my off day and the only reason I’m here to be honest.”
“Next time of course” Roxanne agreed as she listened to him go on, she shifted on her feet again. “And when is the last time you saw an off day?” she asked curiously. She shook her head at the guy herself, he was still the same. Burying himself in work and putting it before everything else. It was part of the reason they broke up, he was married to the job and girls like her wanted just a little more out of life. Licking her lipstick painted lips she sighed heavily “you must find extracurricular to keep you grounded. Or yes, work is going to continue to consume you” she said hearing her name being called she moved to grab her drink thanking the Barista. She moved over to the side adding a little more sugar and a little cinnamon to her drink before grabbing a stirrer and stirring the hot drink up gently.
Cutting his eyes at her slyly, Samuel listened to her as she spoke. Ignoring her question for the time being he listened to what else she had to say. As she walked off he watched her, tilting his head as he took in the sway of her full hips. Licking his lips himself he looked away only as she turned around. Not a second later they were calling his name and he moved to grab it thanking the Barista himself. He moved beside her and said just above a whisper “I have you know I just came back from Turks and Caicos a short while ago” he told her. “But life is busy, just as I know it is for you?” he questioned. He wanted to be the only thing she needed in life, however, she chose practicing Law over his many attempts to make her a house wife. “You own your own firm” he reminded. “Also, I take up yoga in my free time now, it relaxes me” he admitted happily as he tested his drink happy that it was to his liking.
Roxanne looked over a Samuel having tested her drink; she shook her head turning her mouth down as she moved to add some more sugar to it. She chuckled slightly “I don’t work alone, however I have always question your staffs’ work ethic for they can’t run that company without” she told him simply. “Further, even with all that I do in the day I still make time for me, for family, and what’s important in life. I vacation, I indulge in entertainment, I shop… the possibilities are endless. You do realize when owning a business, you are the one who should have the most time on your hands? Why own it if you are always in a cubical like the next little boy?” she asked him smugly. “Ah, a vacation… probably the only one you’ve been on the last 3 years” she told him as she stuck her top back onto her drink. At his confession she looked up at him. “Yoga?” she asked he face read how shocked and both confused she was. “I tried for years to get you to go to yoga with me….” She breathed out looking down for a second. “It’s good you finally got into it” she told him tucking her lips in seconds later. “I have to get going, it was nice seeing you kid” she commented.
Samuel looked to the woman as she tore into him piece by piece but he didn’t mind, these little things about her was a turn-on and he had to admit he missed them. As she continued to speak he drunk the hot drink down, even silencing his ringing phone as it interrupted them both. As her last words he looked to her confused, “uh, yeah. Same here. Keep in touch?” he called out behind her as she moved to the door, walking out of it. He watched her leave oddly as he stuck his hand back into his pocket looking around himself awkwardly before he left as well.
INVOLVED: Samuel Evans & Daniel Parker.
TIME FRAME: Tuesday, February 28th, 2017.
LOCATION: Samuel’s Home; Atlanta, Georgia.
NOTES: -.
Samuel sat before his friend, he sighed to himself before he drunk from his glass again.
“So you mean to tell me that there is some woman in Atlanta who is pregnant with your child. Your children, I’m sorry” he said lifting his finger up, excusing himself as he made the correction. “And you don’t know anything about her aside from the fact that she is a hairstylist? Who lives in some run down home on a side of town… I won’t even get into that. She is single and barely has the finances to handle these said children” Daniel asked him as he leaned back in the chair across from his long time friend.
Samuel nodded his head as the man gave a rundown of everything he caught him up to speed about. He sighed heavily again as he drunk from the nearly empty glass again. They had been sitting in his backyard having drinks, smoking cigars, and talking for the last half hour. Samuel didn’t know who else to talk to and his dearest friend became the lending ear he needed. Now that it was off his chest he felt a little better at the moment, yes he still felt bad about what had happened however now he felt less like a jackass and more like a man who need clarity and would seek it.
“This is a mess of a situation but you already know that so I don’t have to tell you” Daniel said scratching his hand through his hair slowly. “I don’t know what to say I mean. This woman may not even crack up to be half the woman she perceives to be. Plus you are who you are, you don’t have to toy with a woman and play tic-for-tac with her. Pay her off, give her what she needs and move on with life” he shrugged. “I don’t think it is something of which you need to worry yourself about at all. It would take your head out of the game and if she wasn’t receptive to the money then I definitely would not worry about it all” he said outright pressing his finger into the table as he went on. He placed the cigar back between his lips gently.
“I don’t think that is the case, I have no doubt she is a lovely woman. One with great mothering skills. My thing is; I don’t think I am cut out for this. And I wasn’t onboard for this kind of thing, I hadn’t decided yet if I wanted it and now I feel like I am forced with it” he told him. “And that is just the thing those kids are my responsibility and I for one don’t turn my back to my responsibility. I feel obligated to do what I am supposed to be then again, I don’t know if I can do this. It’s not taking care of them financially that is the problem, it’s the emotional stuff” Samuel told him.
“Would you like another drink Sir?” the man asked Samuel and he nodded his head handing over the glass. “And you Sir?” he asked Daniel and he shook his head.
“I am fine, I have to drive myself home” Daniel told the older man before he moved off to grab Samuel’s drink. Daniel looked to his friend and he said. “You are doing what you feel is best for you and no one can knock you for it” he told him. “No one can make you feel bad for this either” he added. “This is so fucked up shit you didn’t ask to be an apart of at all. Be damned if someone makes you do what you don’t want to, do they know who you are?” he asked him again. He lifts the lighter to the butt of his cigar lighting it again. “You are giving to the needy or less fortunate…” he chuckled out hardly.
Samuel looked to Daniel again, nodding to the older guy as he returned with his new full glass. He dropped his head pinching the bridge of his nose; he moved his hands to his eyes rubbing them slowly. He ran his hands through his hair before he said “Giving to the needy and less fortunate?” he questioned with a raised eyebrow. “Are you listening at all?” he asked him. “Or are you just hearing what you want because you aren’t looking pass who she isn’t and what she doesn’t have. How does your income determine how well you can and cannot raise a child?” he asked the guy. “She didn’t ask for this just like I didn’t” he barked. “You can be so ignorant sometimes” he added.
Daniel looked to Samuel and he shook his head, he allowed the man to rant and he exhaled a puff of smoke into the air of the backyard. He looked back to him raising an eyebrow at him. “She is not anything you need to be with or around. She does not need to be acknowledged as the mother of your children nor does she need to hound you about it. Those are facts. Plus… Roxanne Marshall has been asking about you. She wants you two to, connect again” he told him with a smirk.
Samuel looked to his friend again wondering why he kept the Amazon executive around and in his inner circle sometimes. He licked his lips shaking his head again but at the mention of his ex he looked back to the guy. “Hm..” he said easily. “Well she knows where to find me” he told the guy as he stood up stretching a bit before he grabbed his drink moving back into his home.
INVOLVED: Samuel Evans & Karen Evans.
TIME FRAME: Thursday, February 23rd, 2017.
LOCATION: Public Restaurant; Atlanta, Georgia.
NOTES: -.
Samuel sat waiting for his sister to join him; they were going to sit down for lunch and talk. He needed to talk to her and immediately. Since returning from his trip he had been thinking about he was going to do with his life and when these plans of being a father.
Karen walked into the public restaurant and she looked around for her brother before she found him. She sat down before him and she licked her lips slowly before she said “now what is going on?” quickly.
Samuel looked to his sister as she finally surfaced and he sighed a sigh of relief. “Finally” he said to her as he sat back in his chair. “We have to talk, I need someone to talk to” he told her.
Karen nodded her head “talk about what though?” she asked him curiously, he was disheveled and nothing like himself. He didn’t even sound like himself through the text he sent to get her here and the phone call he made thereafter.
“This baby” Samuel said leaning into her “no these babies” he corrected harshly.
“Babies?” Karen questioned with a bewildered look upon her face.
“Yes!” Samuel exclaimed “you see the dilemma now” he told her, not truly explaining himself at all and very hard to comprehend.
“She’s pregnant with twins?” Karen asked trying to make sure they were on the same page. She’d surly have to damage control now. Their parents were a mess after the Sunday dinner he broke the news of the pregnant woman to them. But now, to tell them that the woman was pregnant with twins would he the straw to break the camel’s back.
Samuel nodded his head at her, “yes she is. During the doctor’s appointment we attended we found out” he said to her. “That’s why I went on the vacation in the first place Karen. I need to think, I needed time to myself. And in doing that, I now don’t know if I am ready for 2 kids” he breathed. “I tolerate her, because I mean… what else can I do?” he asked the younger girl. “Do I want 2 kids Karen?” he asked her not knowing what to do, he ran his hands through his hair slowly.
Karen looked to her brother and raised an eyebrow at him as he ranted on and on, she listened to him. After he was finished and done she sighed “you made a promise Sam. Are you just going to go back on what you said?” she asked him.
Samuel looked to his sister tapping his fingers lightly against the table, he sighed as he turned his head away from her. “I don’t know” he told her. “I just don’t think I want to be a part of this anymore. I don’t want the strain or the burden” he admitted.
“I think perhaps you need to talk to dad and think on this some more…” Karen told him.
INVOLVED: Samuel Evans, Karen Evans, Mercedes Jones & Benjamin Walker.
TIME FRAME: Wednesday, January 25, 2017.
LOCATION: Parker and Wade Fertility Clinic; Atlanta, Georgia.
NOTES: Samuel and Mercedes accompanied with their loved ones, return to the facility that has single-handedly turned both of their lives upside down.
Mercedes tapped her left foot nervously as she waited to be seen. The last time she was in this place she was ready for her whole world to change, and now that it has, she was trying her best not to lose herself in it. She came to Parker and Wade Fertility in Atlanta so that she could become a mother, something she had wanted for a while. Everything was perfect. She picked out her donor, someone she could see complimenting her. He was African American, six foot five. He has a Master’s in Education and PhD in Literature. He has a soft caramel complexion and great genes that showed through his bone structure. Needless to say she was thoroughly impressed with his bio, even her best friend agreed; Donor 1672 was the one for her. And yet here she was, sitting in the waiting room, waiting to be seen by their so called leading Physicians so that they could try and explain to her how Donor 1672 turned into Donor 2586. A man she didn’t know anything about. The letter still burned in her head, apologies for the inconvenience of being inseminated with someone else’s sperm. Her heart almost fell to her toes. Mercedes looked at her phone and noted that she had been waiting for fifteen minutes already. They were already off to a bad start.
Benjamin sat beside his childhood friend, his hands rest comfortably in his lap and he tucked his lips in slightly as they sat waiting. She was a nervous wreck, it was apparent. But he being nervous or hysterical about the major mix up would not help her. So he sat as calmly as he could and though he tried several times on the way to the doctor’s office, he knew his words of comfort and endearment were not very affective in her case. What could he really say, when you go to a doctor for help and to fix something within your life you don’t necessarily think they’d ever get it wrong? Watching her as she checked her phone he grabbed her hand in his and said “it’s going to be fine” something he had said before but this time he tried to be just a little bit more convincing as he gazed into her eyes. He gave her hand a gentle squeeze again as he held on to it.
Looking over at her best friend, Mercedes felt herself calming a little. Thank God for Benjamin or she would be worse off than she was currently. He was the only person she could see bringing with her. Maya would be setting the place off right now and Lexi would be freaking out just like her. No Benjamin was the better option; he knew how to try and at least keep her grounded. “Are you sure it’s going to be fine? Because this situation is anything but fine, I am pregnant and by a man I have no idea about. He could be some calculating serial killer who convinced them to take his DNA as an experiment that means my baby is already predisposed to that mess. Or worse he could be short like me then this child ain’t got no chance!” She sighed taking a deep breath and trying to control her emotions which at the moment, due to her hormones going rampant was not helping at all. She held her stomach feeling nauseous. “Oh God I think I am gonna be sick, see this! It’s the midget serial killer genes right now trying to kill me from within.” She stood covering her mouth as she ran into the bathroom and straight towards the toilet.
Blinking slowly Benjamin looked to Mercedes as she spoke, at her questioned he simply nodded. “Yes you are going to fine. The situation may not be. But who knows how this ends” he told her reassuringly. As she went on over analyzing the situation and even making up hysterical accusations he allowed her to speak. To vent and rant it all off her chest if that was the only way she’d feel better. “No” he said shaking his head even willing himself not to chuckle at her. “Your child will not be a midget or a serial killer” he said with a smirk. “Come on, you did your research these guys aren’t bad people. Yes he may not have been the person you chose” he said gently “however, he could be a better option. He could this brainiac destined to be the President of the United States someday. Or some down to Earth guy, who loves kids, has a great background and personality but just needed to do this for some extra cash who knows. Problem solved” he told her before she ran off to handle her sickness anyhow. This would be a long visit.
Splashing herself with water, Mercedes sighed as she took in her appearance in the mirror. She had bags under her eyes, her face was flushed and she looked as if she was going to be sick all over again. Taking a towelette and blotting her face, she opened her purse. The least she could do was look presentable. Five minutes of rinsing her mouth out, applying just enough makeup to add life to her face, and smoothing down her purple spaghetti strapped dress. It clung to her curves; she then tugged at her jean jacket making sure she looked presentable. Ruffling out her curls, she made her way back to the waiting area. Sitting next to her best friend she smiled softly. “Thank you, I know I flew off the handle back there and maybe you are right, maybe this is a good thing. As long as he is healthy, smart, and wants nothing to do with the baby I am good.” One of the reasons she chose to be inseminated was so that she didn’t have to deal with the baby daddy drama in the first place. She had enough drama in her life, she didn’t need any added.
As Mercedes returned Benjamin looked up at her “no problem” he told her “that is what I am here for” he reminded her sweetly. He took her hand back into his. “Do you feel better at least?” he asked her as he tucked a few curls into the back of her ear.
Mercedes nodded and took a breath. “Yeah I am better now. I still feel like this is a big mess that is about to unravel in a very bad way.” She closed her eyes leaning against him. “I am worried Benji, what if the guy they used wants me to get rid of the baby? Or worse he wants to try and take the baby from me? I don’t know what I am supposed to do here and I am trying not to worry but you know me... this is the beginning of the end Benji, I feel it.”
Straightening his tie in the backseat of his limo, he sighed heavily dropping his head back against his seat. The last thing he needed in his life right now was some random woman carrying his child that he didn’t even know. “Sorry” the letter read, how could you just throw in a random sorry for having placed someone’s sperm in a woman he probably didn’t even want carrying his child in the first place. Samuel licked his full lips squinting slightly as they made their way up to the entrance of the facility. “Okay” he breathed easily the worst part of this day was almost over for him. He allowed his driver to open his door before he climbed out, his younger sister in toe. She turned out to be great help in these situations after all she did practice Law, well she was a Law Student but no one needed to know that sure fact. For today she played his fake Lawyer and a damn good job she was sure to do. He looked to his right hand man someone he rarely went out in public without. He allowed the taller and larger guy to lead the way into the building. Buttoning his suit jacket Sam took the building in, looking around at the few faces sitting in the lobby before he moved to the front desk, eyeing the receptionist.
Karen looked at her older brother trying to figure out just how angry he was, hearing that not only his sperm, but the sperm he had frozen for totally opposite reasons, was used to impregnate a random woman. And the woman was actually pregnant with his child, her niece or nephew. Sam may be putting on a front that he is okay, but she knew him better than that. As the Limo came a stop she looked towards him. “Sam, I just want you to remember what is at stake here. We cannot afford for anyone to know about this, until you have had a chance to get this under control. When you go in there I need you to listen, then let me talk.” She watched Sam leave the Limo and took a deep breath before she exited. She had played lawyer before but not for anything this big. As they made their way to the lobby, she glanced around at the different faces around them. Surely they wouldn’t have the mother there with Sam, but who knew that this point.
Samuel looked to Karen “I am well aware of what something like this could jeopardize for me” he spoke lowly. “I won’t hide my anger however” he told her without reason. “This is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard of” he told her. “But first things first we have to go inside and make sense of this” he told her. Samuel continued to watch the woman behind the desk idly speaking on the phone before he cleared his throat agitatedly. Once the woman looked up, he raised a none too pleased eyebrow at her before he said. “I’m Samuel Evans. I am here to speak with whomever is in charge and runs this sham of a medical facility” bitterly. The woman looked to him oddly before she thought about a discussion she had with her supervisor earlier. “Oh yes Sir” she said quickly as she rushed the other patient off the phone. “Just one moment Mr. Evans” she told him pointing towards the chairs “if you don’t mind taking a seat someone will be right with you, right with you” she breathed out offering the man a smile. Sam sneered slightly before he walked away sticking his hands into his pockets he moved to sit down in a empty seat, sitting upright and alert as he waited.
Rolling her eyes internally as Sam not only announced who he was but went on to show is anger; she watched him take a seat and sat next to him. “Sam I am all for you being angry, this is a situation that demands it. But do you think maybe you can wait until we are behind closed doors before you go from Banner to Hulk please?” Karen pulled out her notepad jotting down a few more thoughts on this situation. Not only did she intend on making this place formally apologize for what they did, the offending participants who helped with this mix up were to be fired and she intended on letting them know they will be suing for damages. This could very well ruin her brother’s life, and she was very protective of him, so his enemies were now hers. “Have you told mom or dad about this yet? I am sure they will have a lot to say?”
“I am far from Hulk at the moment” Samuel reasoned. She had a code and he could understand the reasoning behind them playing it cool however on the outside looking in telling someone to be calm was easier said than done. He actually was calm at the moment; he hadn’t even begun to rip the business a new asshole like he wished he could. He licked his lips again; one leg crossed over the other he removed his hands from his pocket and looked to her rubbing his chin. “They’d freak. Maybe even commit murder. I dare not tell them this until I figure out what my next step is” he told her running his hands through his long hair; he shifted in his seat again. He looked to his left slowly and then to his right, he wondered what the woman looked like, who she was. And if they had the balls to bring them both together today? At the thought his head spun “God, I cannot believe this is happening” he told her.
Karen smirked. “I am just saying Sam, I have seen you go from zero to one-hundred before and that is not the way to play this. Yes they were wrong, and yes they need to pay for it. But we need to breathe first and react later.” God she could see her parents going off the rails here. She and her brothers had nothing on the wrath of their parents. “Yeah trying to figure out what you want to do is the best option, before you tell them…” She licked her lips turning a little more towards him and leaned in. “Have you decided what you want to do? I mean if the letter is correct, she is currently pregnant... would you want to be a part of that?”
Samuel sighed again pinching the bridge of his nose, he shook his head slowly. “I uh” he started shrugging, before he shook his head again. “This is something I wanted, but just not right now you know. I don’t know” he told his sister, sitting upright again and he looked around. “I mean I don’t know this woman. She could be crazy. She could try to take me for everything I have own is she finds out who I am” he whispered angrily. “I don’t want this to be about money, but I know and bet a million freaking dollars that is where this is going to end!” he said lifting a finger up at her. “Mark my words, this woman is going to milk me half to death” he said straightening his coat a little.
“I know you wanted to wait to be a father and you still can, I mean there is no law that says you have to step up and be a dad to this child. And if you think it is all about the money, then maybe you should face that head on? Offer her a lump sum, to never bother you again? It’s a thought, not saying something you should do but it’s a thought.” She looked up as a door opened and watched as a tall slender redhead came to the middle of the room. “Mr. Evans, Ms. Jones? Mr. Hunter will see you now.” Karen looked at Sam. “She’s here? Are you kidding me? They brought you both in at the same time?”
Samuel looked to his sister “I shouldn’t have to pay out anything period is my point. However depending upon the person… I’d gladly pay a lump sum and send her on her way. With conditions of course” he told her sighing again. He was already tired of the situation and they hadn’t even been spoken about yet. As his name was announced to the small crowd Samuel looked up before he looked to his sister, hearing the second name being called. Please just shoot me right now” he told her as he moved to stand up. He now had to look the woman carrying his child without his consent right in the eye.
Mercedes sat in Dr. Hunter’s office trying to maintain her composure, but it was hard. Not only was she sitting there being told in person about the massive mistake that was made, but she was stuck in the room with the man who they chose for her, the person she never chose, who was sitting mere feet away from her. He didn’t look pleased at all and it took all she had in her to not jump up and scream out, yell or voice her anger. She looked over to the man she was now bonded with and knew right away he was not someone she would have picked. The man was impeccably dressed in a three piece suit. She could tell he was a businessman, and she wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not. He was extremely handsome, and tall which put her slightly at ease, and while the donor she picked was African American, she could was okay with him being Caucasian. What she wasn’t okay with was the fact that he felt off to her. Dr. Hunter cleared his throat and looked at them putting the file down. “I first, again, wanted to apologize. This has never happened before I can assure you. We take precautions so things like this woudn’t happen.”
Samuel sat leg crossed one over the other as he licked his lips; he made eye contact once with the woman in the room. To his surprise on the outside she didn’t look like she’d be much of a problem but that was just at first glance. He shifted in his seat rolling his jaw as he waited for something of value to be said to him. As the doctor apologized he looked to him expecting a little more in return than that. “You apologized in your letter” he breathed out “I don’t want to hear anymore apologies. I want to know what I am supposed to do now” he said. “I am a busy man Mr. Hunter. Time is money and you haven’t offered me one thing but a pitiful I’m sorry” he told the guy desperately.
“Oh my God.” Left Mercedes lips softly, before she could stop it. He was one of those guys. The ass of all assholes.
Benjamin pinched her thigh knowing right away what she was thinking and she cleared her throat to cover it up.
The man said “time was money” who the hell says that? Dr. Hunter continued to speak and she was just annoyed at that point. “Mr. Evans that is what this meeting is for, so we can all come to some sort of agreement here.” He turned his attention to Mercedes. “Ms. Jones I know that you had your donor picked out as to who you thought was a suitable candid for you, and you do have options.” Mercedes laughed. “Oh I do? Please by all means tell me my options; so that I can fix the mess you created. I am all ears.” She said sarcastically. The older man swallowed hard. “Well you can continue with the pregnancy and work with Mr. Evans, or you can terminate the pregnancy and we can fix our mistake free of charge.” Mercedes flew from her chair before the hand belonging to her best friend could stop her. “What? I know I didn’t just hear you correctly, you screw up, massively I might add and you want me to kill this child, the child growing inside of me to fix your mistake? My child?” she said hysterically.
Samuel looked to his left at the outburst, just what he needed an overly opinionated and hormonal woman. He ripped his eyes away from her long enough to hear the doctor’s words.
“I think what my client is asking of you Dr. Hunter. Is for you to tell us what you recommend in these situations. You claim they don’t happen but if they do. What does my client do now?” Karen asked simply.
At his next words Samuel furrowed his brows before the woman herself jumped up and jumped in with her opinion. “Termination of this pregnancy is not an option” Samuel said outright. He looked to his sister swapping glances before he said. “When was this procedure done? How far along is this woman? And am I allowed to know her background by any chance? I don’t know her… so I need something, I’d like to know something, more” he said.
Mercedes was about to continue, but the man began to speak. He was against terminating the pregnancy and she stood taller knowing he agreed with her on that, but then he started talking as if she weren’t even in the room, and that just pissed her off more. “Excuse you, I am not this woman I have a name and I can speak for myself if you can believe it or not, so how about any questions about me and my pregnancy and my baby be directed to me? Or are women supposed to be quiet in your presence?”
Samuel looked to her again with wide eyes and he tilted his head to the side a bit as she spoke to him. “Okay” he said easily in response to her, she had a bit of an attitude but luckily enough for her he found that quite attractive. He licked his lips before he said “when was this procedure done? How far along are you?” he asked her directly. “And I would like to know your background after all… you could be crazy” he said with a wide smirk. He was annoyed but upsetting her wouldn’t help his case so he might as well play it cool with her, before she turns out taking him for everything he was worth anyway. “Women can speak in my presence…” he challenged slightly. “After all you have been speaking this entire time?” he said back to her.
Folding her arms across her chest she glared at him as he began speaking. Mercedes scoffed in response to him. “First of all, you do realize when talking to an actual person, especially the mother of your soon to be child, you might want to start by asking her name! Second, to answer your question I am about six weeks pregnant. It was done on the twelfth of December. As for my background, show me yours I will show you mine. You could be just as crazy!” She placed her hands on her hips turning fully towards him. “Is that a fact? Well my aren’t you just Mr. Incredible allowing me to speak, allowing me to even be in your presence then? What’s next, gonna make me kiss your ring?”
Samuel looked back at his sister again before he looked towards Mercedes again. “Are you done?” he asked her simply. “You having an attitude with me won’t fix this problem. And please keep in mind Miss Jones” he paused “that is you name right?” he asked sarcastically before he carried on “do keep in mind just as I, you were no choice of mine” he said easily, and without thought. “We can be civil or we can be assholes. The choice is yours” he breathed out gazing at her before he turned his attention back to the doctor. “It took six weeks for someone to catch their mistake?” he asked annoyed. “If I sue you” he paused “when I sue you… they are going to have to name the building after me” he said with a dark chuckle. “All of you are imbeciles” he said.
“Wow, I was right you are a complete asshole.” Mercedes turned towards Dr. Hunter. “Thank you so much for putting this arrogant, asshole in my life.” She turned back to Sam. “Let me tell you something Mr. Evans, I have an attitude because this situation that I have been forced in has ruined everything I have had planned, since I have decided to do this. I have an attitude because I am pregnant with a baby whose father is you, a man I don’t know but from the first impression I have of you, I am not sure I want you in the child’s life.”
Benjamin cleared his throat. “Merce you should calm down.”
Mercedes laughed. “I will not calm down! I didn’t want this! I didn’t want to know the father that was the whole point! But you know what I can fix this situation right now. Mr. Hunter you best believe you will give me a full refund and when my lawyer contacts you, and he will. I hope you have the decency to settle and not expose your failures to the world. And as for you Mr. Evans I am gonna do you a favor and set you free, you have no obligations to this child whatsoever. You didn’t sign up for this, I sure as hell didn’t and I really don’t want to be tied to you at all in this. Now if you'll excuse me I don’t want to be here any longer.”
Tilting his head he watched her, her melt down, and then herself righteous rampage, and even her taking the high road and dismissing herself. He let her finish smirking again to himself nonetheless. “Bravo” he said clapping for her slightly. “You want all the attention and you have it. You want to make this all about you and you’ve done that too. Now that you have spoken, practically talked all our heads off about everything and nothing of importance” he breathed. “I am here to tell you sadly in your situation the responsibility of this child has to be split 50/50. And I am sure Mr. Hunter will allow you to see my medical records for reasons as will yours to me. I’ll give you this” he said as Karen handed her over Samuel’s business card. “And you can call me when you really, really. Want to talk” he told her as he stood up himself. “Excuse me” he told them all as he left.
Karen looked to Mercedes and her friend “I am sorry about this, this is a trying time for him. However please do call if you need anything. We aren’t against you in this. We are with you, we are on your side” she told her reassuringly despite her brother. “Have a good day, but you Mr. Hunter. You’ll be hearing from us very soon” she told him before leaving herself.
Mercedes glared at the door as Karen began to speak. “Oh hell no!” She said to herself turning towards Karen she shook her head. “Yeah that isn’t how this is gonna end.” She walked out the door following after Sam. “Just who the hell do you think you are? I don’t know what planet you landed here from but right now this is about me! About me and this child that I am carrying.” She folded her arms as she cut her eyes at him. “You can think what you want but the rights of the mother carrying a child, trumps the rights of a sperm donor! And if I don’t want you in my child’s life that is my choice. Now you are excused.” She turned away from him.
Looking at the woman in front of him Benjamin stuffed his hands in his pockets. “I am sorry about that, like him this is a hard time for her, she is someone who always is in control and right now she isn’t in control of this or her body or anything. She isn’t...okay that is a lie she is a handful but you can understand why she is upset.” He took the card. “Once she calms down I will make sure she calls your boss. Now I should find her before she goes off again.”
Samuel turned to Mercedes again; this woman was surely beginning to piss him off though he didn’t show it. “Okay” he said simply, he willed himself not to argue. Why would he? He knew what his money was capable of. As she turned away he did the same exiting the building.
“Noted” Karen replied to Benjamin as she offered a polite grin and walked away in pursuit of her brother.
Benjamin walked out the room and right into a fuming Mercedes. He could see whatever she went to talk to that Evans guy about didn’t end on a happy note. “What happened?”
Mercedes frowned looking at her best friend. “Nothing let’s just go home. And before you start.” She said raising her hand to his face. “I am tired; I am emotional and pissed off. I just want to go... please.” She walked out the room and heard Benjamin follow after her, she was not sure what the father of her child was capable of, but she didn’t trust him for a minute.
INVOLVED: Samuel Evans, Karen Evans, Lonna Evans & Bradford Evans.
TIME FRAME: Sunday, January 29, 2017.
LOCATION: The Evans’ Home; Atlanta, Georgia.
NOTES: Samuel goes to his parents for Sunday dinner; and to drop a bomb on them.
Samuel pulled up to his parent’s home, it was Sunday and as always he sat down for dinner with them. He sighed heavily, he’d have to tell his parents what was going on in his life and that would be a very hard thing to do. His father wasn’t that big of a problem for him he was only a hard ass when he needed to be. His mother however was a piece of work sometimes, the woman liked order and complete constituency in their lives and this would be a hard curve ball to throw at her. And then there was Karen, whom already knew but yet hadn’t been able to give a full opinion of this situation as of late. Thankfully his older brother was miles away in New York City or his opinion might have been the straw to break the Camel’s back today. As he punched in the security code to open the gates he waited before pulling up to the large home, he parked in the round about in front of the home before he climbed out his car and walked up to the front door. Licking his lips he knocked twice and then rung the doorbell waiting patiently.
Lonna grabbed an appetizer off a tray and she munched on it hungrily, “yum” she said to the chef thoughtfully before she wiped her hands clean walking away. She moved through the large house looking for her husband when she heard the knocks on the front door and the doorbell ringing. She rushed over towards the door ushering their maid away from it quickly. “It’s Samuel, I know it” she told her as she combed her finger through her hair and opened the door quickly for him. “Son!” she squealed pulling him into a hug, hugging him tightly to her as she did.
Samuel licked his lips again, patiently waiting until the door swung open to the sight of his mother. Samuel chuckled, smiling brightly at his mother “mother, gorgeous as ever” he told her as he hugged her tightly to him. He rocked the woman back and forth slightly rubbing her back. “What are you taking mother, you look as beautiful as ever” he said as he let her go, knowingly walking inside.
Lonna laughed at Samuel swatting him away “oh Heavens” she replied “botox and more botox” she sung out to him as she moved to close the door and lock it behind her. She walked behind him, locking their arms together as she walked him into the living room looking for his father, her husband.
“Beauty is the eyes of the beholder” Samuel told her knowingly, he never understood why people altered their looks but who was he to judge. He walked along side his mother as they moved towards the large living room and he looked to his father. “Father” he said happily as he looked to the equally tall man.
“Beauty is in the eyes of the plastic surgeon” Lonna challenged as she walked the boy inside and she looked to him and his father before she moved to walk away, going to find Karen so that they could eat supper.
Bradford looked up as his wife and second son as they approached him. He quickly turned the large tv off and moved to stand greeting Samuel with a hug of his own. “Hi son” he breathed out happily. “How are you, sit” he told him as he sat back down himself. “What’s new?” he asked him always wanting to know about the business he handed down to his son years ago. He was retired but he missed the work and he missed the business of being in business.
Samuel hugged his father back patting his back before he let the older man go, Samuel sat down beside him as instructed and he sighed softly. “May I take your coat Mr. Evans?” the maid asked and he nodded “sure” he told her smiling as he slipped it off and handed it to her. “Thank you” he told her as she rushed to hang it up for him. “Work is work dad, you know that. It’s a constant thing… mess ups here. Mess ups there. You know” he dragged out with a shake of his head. “I am doing fine though… thinking about taking a mini vacation soon” he said honestly.
Bradford nodded at his son, smiling at the woman as she came to take his coat and leave. He crossed his leg as he gave his son all his attention and he listened. The guy was different, something was bothering him and Bradford wondered if it were something that had to do with the job. He knew how stressful it could be, that he knew all too well. He tilted his head at him, at his confirmation for taking a vacation he knew completely and without a doubt his son was stressed. “Well my only question now is, what is bothering you so?” he asked giving him a knowing look.
Samuel looked to his father and he bit down on his bottom lip before releasing it. He sat there for a moment he didn’t know how he’d tell everyone so maybe individually would be best he thought.
“Dinner is ready let’s go” Lonna said to the two men cutting off their intimate moment together. She smiled brightly before she walked off headed for the dining room as she did.
Bradford looked up at his wife and then to his son, he was waiting for a response but he guessed it would have to wait for now. He got up sighing, “Well dinner calls and I am starved so let’s go” he said patting his shoulder as he walked off following behind the woman.
Samuel looked to his mother and then his father. He was saved by the bell luckily, if only for the moment and he got up after his father. He walked behind them headed for the table and he smiled at his little sister, hugging her from behind. “Hello you” he said as he sat down at the large table. He cleared his throat a bit before he looked at the meals that were prepared. It looked amazing.
Karen looked to her brother and she smiled at him as he hugged her. As he sat down at the table she licked her lips looking at their dinner. “The gang is all here” she commented as her parents sat at the table as well.
Samuel nodded chuckling at his sister and he shifted in his seat before he looked to his father.
Bradford sat down and he smirked at his kids and he looked to his wife before he said a small prayer. “Thanks for this food, may it be nourishment for our bodies. Amen” he said as he began to eat picking up his fork.
Lonna looked to her husband knowingly, he was going to say the same prayer he always did and once he was finished she smile. “Amen” she said grabbing her fork and she began to eat.
Samuel listened, waited, and then he began to eat. He looked to Karen swallowing “how’s school?” he asked the younger girl.
Karen looked to Sam, she shook her head “going, it is a lot of work but its going” she told him honestly.
“Hard work pays off” Samuel replied back to her.
Bradford nodded his head “that it does, you keep at it. And it will pay off greatly” he told his daughter and youngest child.
Lonna smiled “speaking of hard work. Samuel how are things going?” she asked him. “What have you been up to, I have been trying to keep up with you and as of late it has been fairly hard” she told him.
Samuel looked to his mother and he sighed “work is fine mother” he replied simply. “I uh... have a lot going on right now” he admitted as he looked to his father and then back to his plate.
Karen looked to Sam clearing her throat a bit as she licked her lips, enjoying the meal that was prepared.
Lonna looked to Samuel “oh” she breathed out as she stuffed some food into her mouth. She chewed it and swallowed “do tell” she told him. “What’s been going on?” she asked him.
Samuel looked to his mother again “well” he breathed out softly. “I uh…” he started not knowing really how to say what he wanted to say. “Something happened recently. It is a shocking situation to be in but it happened. I received a letter, from a medical clinic” he said. “You and dad remember… me freezing some of my seed” he said discreetly. This wasn’t at all dinner table conversation but since he had to tell them sometime he might as well right now.
Bradford looked up “of yes” he nodded at his son. “I recall that, you wanted to pick out a surrogate basically” he said, remembering his son having made this decision a while ago. It wasn’t ethical in his opinion a guy having a child alone but he knew his son wanted a son of his own. And he knew he was strong minded and would get what he wanted no matter the cost. The older guy continued to eat as he waited for the rest of his son’s response.
Samuel nodded at his father and he cleared his throat a bit before he picked up his glass and sipped from it lightly.
Lonna looked to Sam nodding his head, sometimes there son got into the sides of business and life they didn’t dab in. He was a free spirit on some sorts. He was the odd man out of the group, sometimes she felt her oldest son was but no, it was her middle child. The daredevil. “So with that comes what… what are you trying to say Samuel? You think you are finally going to find that surrogate?” she asked him.
Karen looked to her brother, her heart thudding as she did. She didn’t think he’d tell their parents this early on and she definitely didn’t think he’d do it over dinner. She grabbed her wine glass and began to sip from it as well.
Samuel looked to his father, his mother, and then his sister. He breathed out slowly before he said. “The medical center, made a terrible mistake. Someone seeking a donor to be artificial inseminated. The young lady… she, she chose one donor and they accidentally… there was a mix up” he said trying to gather his words.
“Speak up!” Lonna said looking to his crazily. “What does this have to do with you, what are you trying to say?” she asked him outright as she sat her fork down.
“The girl was inseminated with my sperm by accident mother” Samuel said outright to her. She blinked hard as she dropped his head. “It was a mix up… and she’s pregnant. It was successful” he confessed.
Bradford looked up at Samuel, “what?” he asked him shocked.
Lonna squinted slightly “what” she repeated after her husband. “Are you kidding me?” she asked him. “Who is this woman? Just some random Atlanta inhabitant?” she asked floored. “I can’t believe this” she told him shaking her head.
Karen looked to her parents and then Sam. “I am helping him sue the company” she told them.
Lonna looked to Karen and she glared at her knowingly “hush” she commanded her.
Bradford looked to Lonna, Karen, and then Samuel. “W-what are you going to do?” he asked his son confused. “What does this all mean?” he asked him, knife in one hand fork in the other.
Samuel huffed slightly “I have no clue, she’s a piece of work and I don’t know what I am going to do right now. I think I just need a support system” he told them. “And I wanted to make you aware. She is” he started. “I actually don’t know a single thing about her. All I know is her name is Mercedes Jones, she’s an African American woman. She’s single and that’s about it” he told them.
Lonna looked to him and her eyes widen “African American, single woman….” She repeated. “I need a Valium and a dirty martini” she said as she got up from the table walking away without another word.
Bradford looked to Samuel as he waited for something, their son had nothing to offer and it stunned him more. Bradford sat his utensils down and he dropped his head pinching the bridge of his nose. “African American, single woman…” he repeated. “And that’s it?” he asked him. “Wow” he said as his wife left the room and he watched her slowly. “Lonna” he said calling her name before he rested back in his seat. “I’ll be back kids” he said as he moved to excuse himself as well.
Karen bit her lip looking to everyone as they all practically spoke over each other and she sat back as both their parents left the room. “I think that went well” she said.
Samuel tossed his glass of wine back, guzzling it down before he sat it back against the table. “Yeah” he said sighing.
