i rembered. have you watched threads (1984)
YES. OF COURSE. ONE OF MY FAVOURITES. it's so fucking harrowing and GENUINELY disturbing. Fun facts:
The director, when he learned that America was ALSO making a film depicting nuclear holocaust (The Day After), decided that he'd cancel Threads if he felt theirs got it right. When he saw the film he was disappointed in not only the shred of hope it depicted, but also the casting of known actors- He himself chose to cast 'nobodies' to heighten realism.
The film was made on a shockingly small budget! In fact, the crew got lucky that a downtown part of Sheffield was under demolition, and they were given permission to go buck wild destroying it for their shots.
On the same note as above, the (honestly very well done) gore was mostly made of tomato sauce and rice krispies.
When casting extras, they were told to look as miserable as possible, most miserable got the job.
When the movie aired (it was a TV movie), the director was awaiting phone calls afterwards, as it was customary for directors to be flooded with congratulations from family, friends, colleagues, etc... But his line was silent. He realised afterwards that everyone was in too much shock to even consider contacting him.
