Hi Katie! My name's Darby and I've been accepted into Northeastern and I love your blog because I am considering studying marine biology. I love love love the outdoors and would love to hold onto that in my studies and career. Do you find that you are outside a lot as a marine biology student in regards to field work? Also, I didn't know about the Three Seas program, but I find it very intriguing! Is it hard to get into? UDub and Seattle seem so cool! I applied and got in there, too. Thanks!
Hi Darby! Congrats on your acceptance and I’m so happy to hear that you are interested in marine biology! Many of my friends in the program are just like you and they love the outdoors! It definitely depends on what you are interested in doing within the field of marine biology but there are endless opportunities to get outside and into the field within the major, especially in the Three Seas program! At all three locations but especially in Panama, we were in the field almost daily. Last summer when I was working at the Marine Science Center full-time conducting independent research, I went out into the field at least once a week if not more. Even some of the courses I’ve taken such as Ecology and Marine Biology have had lab field trips to the Boston parks or the Marine Science Center to conduct field work.
The Three Seas program was one of the reasons I came to Northeastern so I am very happy I was able to help you discover that program! While the program is becoming more competitive, preference is given to Northeastern students who have fulfilled all of their prerequisite coursework. So as long as you have taken the required classes before you start the program and complete your application on time, you will be fine! That being said, should you choose another university but still want to do the Three Seas program, you are welcome to do so, but know that it is extremely competitive when coming from another institution as an undergraduate. I personally have never seen an undergraduate from another university participate in the program. The Master’s students, however, come from a variety of universities. The Master’s program is still very competitive, so keep that in mind!
Best of luck and if you have any other questions, do not hesitate to ask!
Best,
Katie

”RELATE” a minimalistic statement to the hip hop world and the music world overall: Style and substance STILL over everything. Our drums swing and pulsate... that's from the soul. Our words - spoken low and melodious; a braggadocious conversation with the rhythm - that's from the spirit. The melody - haunting, as well as graceful - a display of our knowledge of balance. Truly representative of the THREE SEAS sound... OUR sound...
cheers.
“RELATE” from forthcoming compilation “TRIA MARIA VOL 1″ out Sunday, Nov, 22nd. Available for download on Bandcamp.
