☂ Stuck in the Rain ☂ (Gill&Lillian)
The young woman's memories of Harmonica town, and Casanet in general, were very vivid. The few times she had visited the beautiful town while she was taking a break from farm work, she hadn't regretted it. With it's clear ocean water, and dream like beaches, she always had a great time when she went.
And that was exactly why she returned.
three-dollar-gill replied to your post: [A pause.] ... Yes, I believe so. I think I've seen him, once or twice. But I'd thought I was crazy then, too. [His voice takes on a slightly more incredulous tone.] Who are you, that you know so much about this sort of thing? How is it that farmers seem so in tune with - spirituality.
You said: Hm— well. That’s— sort of why I’m here, actually. [Clears his throat.] I thought— since the Goddess springs seemed so still - and that I’d seen the King, but not the Goddess - that maybe she’d be here, instead. Or in another town.
"Well," Jack said. "I've heard she likes strawberries, but that's about the extent of my knowledge about her preferences." Jack rubbed his neck. "I don't know how much this is based upon truth or not, but the Goddess is said to only appear to those pure of heart." He smiled wryly. "A bit of a high standard for farmers that depend on their shipments to get by, don't you think?"
[Chews his lip in thoughtful silence for a moment - before taking a slow breath and nodding.] No one was hurt. Repairs are underway as we speak - and the insurance company Town Hall works with was willing to cover most of the funds needed for rebuilding. We were quite fortunate. [Pauses for a moment, fiddling with the hem of his shirt, before continuing in a lower voice.] I'm-- really very glad you're back, though. I was just thinking to myself-- well, how long its been since I'd been to Mass.
/Listens thoughtful as Gill goes on, nodding intermittently. He manages a smile and a genuine sigh./ That is a relief. /crosses himself soundly/
…I’m glad to be back, Gill. /His eyes light up as he places a hand to his chin, thinking./ You know, I think it would be good for the whole town if we had Mass again. Do you think… Hm, maybe next Sunday would be good? I’m sure I could write a good sermon in a week. Or should I really push myself and try for a Wednesday evening service..?
[Falls into something of an awkward silence as Perry is silent - wondering for a moment if perhaps the comment about "god" had crossed a line, and quietly fretting beneath the carefully crafted deadpan. When Perry finally does speak, however, he manages little more than a furrowed brow of worry for a moment.] No-- no, that's not at all what I meant, I hadn't meant to accuse you of-- I mean, there was nothing that could be done-- these things just /happen/, as glad as I am that you're back--
Oh— Gill, no, I didn’t mean— /holds up his hands to both calm and reassure him/ It’s just… that’s supposed to be my job, isn’t it? To comfort people when they feel, well, shaken? What does it say for me that right before I’m most needed, I end up leaving?
/He sighs deeply as he turns to look up at the mountain just as Gill had before him, only he holds his gaze long and pensively. It’s a few moments more before he huffs another “laugh", turning back to Gill with a defeated sort of smile and a shrug./ Ah, don’t mind me. I guess I should just ask if everyone is all right.
