It is on Easter Sunday that we remember and celebrate the resurrection and of course during this time all eyes are in Jesus ... but what if the 3 Mary’s who were not only the first to witness the resurrection but were also said to have witnessed the crucifixion at the foot of the cross too? The three Mary’s were Mother Mary, Mary Magdalene and Martha - Mary Magdalene’s sister. In some stories Mary Magdalene and Martha are sisters to Lazarus whom Jesus rose from the dead! Here then we have representatives of birth (Mother Mary) life (Mary Magdalene the secret wife of Jesus) and death (Martha whose brother was resurrected). The 3 Mary’s representing the triple Goddess or the fates who hold the weft and weave of existence and bare witness to the cycle of being. These divine representations bare witness to Jesus’s life, death and rebirth - they mark these moments and turn the wheel of them, contributing their power into making them happen.
