How do you think the viltrumites would react to Valentine's Day?
First time they heard about it, they pretty much had the same reaction: another nonsensical, frivolous thing humans do. Humans seem to want to give and receive gifts as much as they can and Viltrumites just??? Don't really get that. Also, yet another celebration that has a religious name but has nothing to do with religion? Bizarre but, at this point, not unexpected.
But we all know how fast they fold so, over time, all of them grew interested in it. Some more some less, but they all celebrate it in a way or another.
You'd think Kregg would be ecstatic about such a celebration, since he loves love so much. But no. It stresses him out to no end because he has too many partners and he can't be with all of them at the same time and humans are very strict on celebrating Valentine's day on the 14th of February so. It's a mess. He has a list of his partner, for most to least interested in Valentine's Day. The ones who expressed they don't really care about it just get some chocolates and flowers delivered to their door, each with their own letter that filled with affection and appreciation. Going up in the list, there'd be ones that care but not that much. Those that would be okay celebrating on another day, and he'd do that. He would still send them gifts, but he would make sure to have a nice, romantic dinner with them a few days later. For the ones that care the most about it, he would do anything to make his schedule fit theirs. Flying around the globe and changing clothes along the way to make sure to be presentable - only having a few hours to spare with each of them. He has learnt how to use the timezones to his favor, but it's still like running a marathon for him. Having booked each of their favorite restaurants months in advance, booking musicians if available (and if his partners like them, of course), having the tables specially decorated with flowers and candles. Going above and beyond to have them enjoy their time together as, unfortunately, it's not as much as any of them would like.
Lucan would do something similar - but in the comfort of home. He'd take the day off without his partner knowing, kissing them goodmorning and having a bouquet delivered to their place of work with a simple note. His partner would come home to a surprise though, and they'd notice the moment they'd open the door. The only lights come from the kitchen, alongside the scent of some delicious food. The livingroom would be decorated in a simple yet tender way, and Lucan would have made his partner quite a banquet. All of their favorite foods made and served just for them to enjoy, music in the background to create an even more intimate atmosphere. And afterwards Lucan would be preparing them a warm bath, the bathroom dimly lit by scented candles. He wouldn't join his partner unless asked, but he'd stay there, giving them shoulder massages and getting them all cozied up.
A Valentine's day with Thula would be a busy one. If her partner agrees to it, she'd have the whole day planned. Starting with breakfast together at their favorite spot, then a walk to the museum of the city that had just changed some installations. Then it would be time for lunch - and she'd have a spot reserved, making sure they had some sort of tasting menu for Valentine's Day. Then it's time to go ice skating, spending a few hours on the ice and enjoying the warm beverages from the nearby cafés. Then it's time for a romantic dinner with live music, where Thula made sure to bribe the musicians to have them dedicate her partner's favorite love song to them. It would be a long, maybe even tiring day, but one in which Thula would make sure to show her parnter how much she values their time together.
Anissa would use Valentine's day as an excuse for a small vacation. Nothing too fancy, just a little retreat away with her partner for a couple of days. Something different every year - once in a cottage that was way too hard to reach by car, once in an enormous tent that was way too accessorized to be a tent (that's how she learnt about glamping). Each year Anissa and her partner would always follow the same rules for their Valentine's retreat: no internet, no cellphones, nothing but the two of them and some corny DVDs. And, most importantly, a polaroid camera. They'd spend the days going on hikes or having pic-nics outside (as long as the weather favors them), cooking together and sometimes even trying to fish and cook on a makeshift campfire. Collecting memories, undisturbed by the rest of the world and universe alike. Only in the days afterwards, usually the weekend, there they'd sit together and add the polaroid pics of that year to their Valentine photo book, writing notes and funny things that happened as they enjoyed their time together.
Thragg would be competitive with himself on gifts. While he would probably start with just a bouquet of red roses and a box of chocolates, year by year things would be more abundant, as he'd more or less subconsiously try to one up himself. On the second year it would be a bigger bouquet, a wider selection of refined chocolates, a dinner in a francy restaurant. By the fifth it would be two days away in a spa, a few massages booked, their room always filled with fresh, red roses and rose petals on their bed. A private chef hired to have his partner eat the best delicacies in the continent, and some wonderful clothes tailored just for the occasion. And he would keep going bigger and bigger as long as his partner leaves him unchecked, wondering how one can top such a Valentine's Day.
