Ok my turn!
MOST problematic aspect of Thyrias and Dorian’s Relationship?
Thyrias starts off fully lying about who he is
Dorian wants Thyrias to fuck him b/c he got hard when Thyrias yelled at him
Thyrias straight up did not like Dorian as a person when they started fucking
Does not tell Dorian about his whole-ass twelve year old child for many months
Thyrias has not fully processed the death of his husband and IS weird about it
Dorian thinks Thyrias is cheating on Bull with him at first
He also thinks Bull is cheating on Thyrias with him (He feels sooo guilty)
Thyrias is aware of Dorian's misconceptions and thinks it's hilarious
Dorian covers for Thyrias after Thyrias literally assassinates a monarch
Dorian becomes Thyrias's daughter's favorite dad
Piping Hot OC Ask: 💐 for Thyrias
💐 : What is his courting style? How would he woo someone?
Oh Thyrias is a fun one to ask this for because he was actually married before Inquisition- his relationship with Dorian definitely doesn't start off in any sort of regular way. But with his dead husband things did start a little more traditionally.
Endrian was a healer/herbalist in Halamshiral and Thyrias worked as a diver for river pearls and would also often forage for medicinal herbs/plants that might be useful and trade them at Endrian's shop. Endrian was easily the friendlier and more charismatic of the two of them, and would strike up friendly conversation.
Once Thyrias noticed how Endrian would just politely feign ignorance anytime a woman would subtly flirt while patronizing his shop he started paying a bit more attention. Especially once they were both older than the usual age range most city elves entered into arranged marriages.
He eventually started trying to sneak little gifts into the bundles he'd packaged to trade with Endrian. Pearls that might not be high enough quality to sell, but could still be pretty in the right lighting. Interesting/potentially valuable things he found mudlarking and cleaned up at home later. Started keeping an eye out for flowers that just looked nice even if they might not have any specific medicinal uses that he knew of. He'd also offer to repair/refurbish/upgrade Endrian's things if he noticed stuff getting worn out that he could fix.
There was a lot of silent semi-acknowledged back and forth between the two of them for awhile. You know how it is, sitting there listening to someone else obliviously asking when someone you're pretty sure is queer is going to settle down and find a socially acceptable heteronormative partner already, and have they considered [insert single relative here?], they could definitely arrange something. And you just kind of grimace because, well, you've been there.
Eventually Thyrias's family and Endrian's mother are just like "You don't have to keep up the little dance you're doing for everyone else. You know we're fine with it. You know we don't care and we just want you to be happy. I know this is Orlais but we really don't have to play the same games as the nobility." And things just go pretty smoothly for them from there 😭. At least in terms of their relationship. He had a fairly simple sweet life(aside from the standard City Elf horrors) before everything went to shit.
With Dorian shit was messy as all hell because that did start off as a weird semi hate-fuck thing. He was not over Endrian's death even a little bit yet. And then he started catching feelings for Dorian and that felt like a betraying Endrian. He didn't so much woo Dorian as he spent months trying to figure out how to make up for how badly the way shit started definitely exacerbated Dorian's issues surrounding intimacy and actually feeling like people want him around. 👍
I definitely said. Way more than required to answer the actual question but. It's fine.
your oc as the patron saint of...
take this uquiz as your ocs and share the results
Tagged by @gyrovagi thank you! I had a lot of fun with this!
so at first I was just gonna do my wardens, since my worldstate has 7 whole people in it and that's too many but then I did take the quiz for all seven of them for funsies and got different results for each of them and then. yeah.
tagging @screature-feature @sha-brytols & @mageknife no pressure tho <3
Ok I know this was going on a few days ago but it's fun so I'm just gonna be late to the party. First kills for my DA PCs:
Hyacinth Tabris: He was 21. No special story here, this one was just straight up during his origin. One of the guards he had to fight through to get to Shianni and the others. It's not even something that sticks out as significant to him. Vaughan and Co. were the ones who mattered. He didn't love how unbothered he was by the fact that he killed so many people over the course of one afternoon even if they had it coming.
Fen'telathe Mahariel: She was 20 or so, defending Clan Sabrae from a group of humans that attacked while they were traveling. Some poor motherfucker decided to go after Merrill and got Fen's sword through their middle in response.
Shea Surana: She was 19. Over the course of DAO, she tended to hang back from combat and mostly focus on keeping party members up. But during the broken circle questline when they reached the third floor and most of the combat involved fighting charmed or possessed Templars she was suddenly actually using her more aggressive spells, and actively participating in combat. Given Shea's fairly withdrawn nature, everybody in the party very politely decided not to comment on this. She allowed herself the vulnerability of a panic attack once she was alone in the privacy of her tent at camp the next day.
Atlas Hawke: He was like 16 trying to be a fun silly older brother and help magic practice be more fun and less like. Scary. Brought both twins with him for a fun romp in the woods out to a secluded area. Or well it was supposed to be secluded. Showing Carver and Bethany fun little tricks that he'd figured out, making little lightshows for them with fire and ice. Creating a fun like ice skating obstacle course chase game for them. The twins vs. Atlas. Let's see if they can take down big brother together. Anyways they were having too much fun I guess. Laughter and giggles got too loud. Caught the attention of a couple of templar recruits who had snuck off for a break for their own reasons. Not expecting to find some apostate mage kids just like... playing. Atlas yelled for the twins to run, Bethany dragged Carver off with her, and Atlas made absolutely sure to keep the Templars' attention focused on him while the twins ran. He was able to keep the Templars at a distance and use the icy obstacle course he'd built for the twins for fun to his advantage. So first kill specifically was like fairly quick, distance casting for the win. The second one less so because the second templar was able to close the distance while he dealt with the first guy. Slipped on the ice and dropped his sword, but was able to pull Atlas down with him, and that was a much scarier, more brutal and bloody kill, and why Atlas's staffs are always also just polearms, because having something sharp on hand as a last resort was literally life saving. He has a bit of a breakdown about it while still like sitting next to the corpse, but pulls himself together by the time Malcolm finds him, still sitting there, just kind of dead eyed, beat to shit and covered in blood. They moved again very shortly after.
Thyrias Lavellan: Early 20s, some drunk idiot human decided to be stupid. Lucky for Thyrias it was late at night, he's small and quick, and the drunk guy didn't have a solid grip on his weapon. It was easy enough to make it look like an accidental death, so nobody got suspicious when the body was found the next morning.
Adaian De Riva: They were 9. They really would have become the perfect Crow if they hadn't been taken in by Hyacinth and Zevran before the end of their Crow training. They had a strong will to survive and the ruthlessness required to make it through the early years of Crow training. Their first kill was a slightly older Crow recruit, that they bested during training. The assassin overseeing things that day decided that if a nine year old was able to best the older kid then the older kid didn't have what it would take to be an assassin anyways, whether they were soft enough to go easy on the younger kid, or just not skilled enough to win. And instructed Adaian to finish the job. They didn't feel any guilt or remorse in the moment but now they try not to think about it, and wish they could forget.
Actias Lavellan: 17, magic tutoring with Dorian went sideways when an assassin showed up. They were prepared for magical combat. Less prepared for the Dalish kid who had uncanny aim and a killer throwing arm. Dorian was less than pleased about the loss of one of his fancy paper weights and the bloody mess and shattered skull fragments on the floor of his study, but was relieved that they both made it out of that mostly unscathed, so didn't make a huge deal out of it. They both agreed not to mention the incident to Thyrias or Bull because neither of them wanted to deal with the worrying or insistence on increased security while Actias was spending time with her favorite parent. Actias was much less emotionally affected by this incident than she thought she was probably supposed to be, which bothered her more than the fact that she just killed a man.
Hi hello, happy birthday
Here's a ask for any of your OC's
---
👕Appearance
What is your character's favorite physical trait they possess?
---
🤝Community and Relationships
Who is your character most honest with?
---
💓Mind, Body and Soul
Is there a secret thing your character longs to hear?
---
Ok I’m gonna go w/ Thyrias for these since I’ve got a lot of other asks for Shea.
What is your character's favorite physical trait they possess?
See this one is hard b/c as the artist I designed him and I just really love how he looks in general, not to pat myself on the back too hard but… Anyways for him I think he likes his hair, he spends a lot of time taking care of it.
Who is your character most honest with?
Pre-Inquisition it would've been his husband, Endrian, but he dies like 2 years before Inquisition. Post-Inquisition it's The Iron Bull
Is there a secret thing your character longs to hear?
That his daughter forgives him 😭
Toying with the idea of letting Thyrias be the one to actually kill Empress Celene
Like he would know that Florianne is planning on killing her- and just... He wants to do it. He has so much seething hatred in his heart for this woman. And in a world where he isn’t the Inquisitor, he's there With the Inquisitor. That Like duo-anchor idea I threw out awhile back. Where like he kinda shoved the other person into the Inquisitor role because he doesn't want to be in the spotlight like that and he sure as hell isn't Andrastian. Anyways he plays a role almost parallel to Leliana in a sense.
And like up to this point he has Not come clean to anyone in the Inquisition about his role as a spy for Briala, or about the fact that he was originally from Halamshiral before Celene burned it. Like he has been faking some kind of non-Orlesian accent and everything.
And he gets to the Winter Palace. Figures out the whole assassination plot. And is just like. No. I need to be the one to do it. And if I can't be the one to do it, then I need to be the one to make sure it Sticks. So he like gets his bow and climbs up into the rafters or some vantage point where he will have a good view of where Celene is going to stand to address the crowd, where he knows Florianne is going to attempt the assassination.
And he makes sure to get the shot lined up. And fires off his arrow right as Florianne goes to stab Celene. And look if you know anything about me you know I adore a freakishly good archer who can make insane trickshots. Always have always will. Lines the shot up so that it not only hits Celene, but also goes through Florianne. 2 birds 1 stone. He fucking Vanishes before anyone can get Near him. Nobody even knows he was with the Inquisition at first.
Did not warn anyone about the fact that he was going to do that. The advisors are furious. Leliana and Josephine are able to somehow play it to the Inquisitions advantage, though. Claiming that really at that point it was a mercy kill so Celene didn't suffer while bleeding out. Claiming that well at that point of course he had to go through Celene to get to Florianne and make sure she didn't have time to get away. Celene was definitely already dead. And hey if the Inquisition has a personal Assassin skilled enough to pull that off maybe you don't want to contradict the story they’re spinning. Even if you're sure you saw the arrow hit before the dagger. Surely you must have been mistaken. Definitely.
Briala is of course set up to Puppet Gaspard. With that extra fun threatening knowledge that the Inquisitions personal assassin?? Briala's spy?? Briala's personal assassin??? Killed both his sister and the empress in one shot. And disappeared before anyone could catch him. And Gaspard can't prove anything.
Thyrias obviously doesn't leave the Inquisition, he still has the Anchor, needs Solas's help to stabilize it, and needs to help with closing fade rifts. He Does admit to having been a spy for Briala prior to joining up. Doesn't confirm one way or another whether he's still working for her (He is). Does reluctantly explain his motives to the Inquisitor and advisors. Inquisition (Mage) Trevelyan takes his side. And he surprisingly. Gets away with it.
Hello. I was wondering what your process of creating your dragon age ocs was like. They are so well developed and really interesting!
Oh this is such a sweet ask thank you!
It fully depends on the character tbh- so Hyacinth was my very first Dragon Age OC and I made him before I knew much At All about the series and sort of just developed him as the game went along. Started with knowing I wanted to play a city elf- looked up the romances, was incredibly disappointed that Morrigan was hetlocked- didn't want to romance a character who seemed very catholic coded, or playthru a hetlocked straight man romance so that left me with Zevran. Then I figured out Hyacinth's name→ my wife mentioned that hyacinthine hair was often usually, poetic descriptor for dark curly, coily, or kinky hair because it resembled the curled petals of hyacinth flowers so from there I decided that Hyacinth needed to be a Black man(this was before I knew that Adaia was canonically Black so it was a very happy accident).
Playing through the Tabris origin and the emphasis on arranged heterosexual marriage and having kids and building a family and how small and insular the Alienage community seemed I decided it made sense if Hyacinth had just never really encountered the concept of queer people, and didn't know that was like… An option. And just assumes there's like. Something Wrong With Him for really not wanting to marry a woman (not even touching the desire for men with a 50 foot pole). Which means he Cannot Let Anyone Know. That Will disappoint his family and he loves them they're all he has and he does not want to do thatttttt. Anyways things for Hyacinth just developed organically from there as I played the game.
My Hawkes are in time out right now as I rework things. I'll ramble about the process there if you are interested but I'm actively in the process of scrapping my old Hawke and replacing him with someone else and I haven't fully figured her out yet so. 😔
Thyrias, my Inquisitor, I actually went like. All out for. I was so hooked after finishing DA2(and had already played thru DAI once rip to Qwyllian Adaar I'm sorry you didn't stick), I read The Masked Empire and got so. Pissed. At how WEWH just ignored all of that? The burning of Halamshiral was barely even a footnote! Fucked up! So I created Thyrias to have an Inquisitor who would have a legitimate reason to already know all of that.
With Fen, my Mahariel, I started with the premise of wanting to romance Morrigan as a butch, spent a few hours researching Dalish names and naming conventions before naming her, played through the Mahariel origin, it crashed on me like 5 or more times, and decided that Fen&Merrill had been a thing before Duncan conscripted her because that's fun and adds some extra depth to the whole thing.
With Shea- admittedly it was just…
and then I played through the origin and developed her as a character as I went along, and let my thoughts stew for awhile. She ended up mostly just cooking in the background in my brain for months at a time while I was dealing with other important life shit and then I'd sit up randomly like 'oh fuck hold on I've got pages of Shea lore now'.
Ironically enough before getting into Dragon Age I'd never given a shit about making OCs for existing IPs, I'd played BG3 but playing as Tav/Durge didn't do the same thing for me as playing through the Dragon Age games. I've always made my own characters, and enjoyed playing video games, but I'd never really given a shit about CRPGs because if I was going to make my own character then I was going to make the entire rest of the world and all the other characters they interacted with too(or well, not all entirely myself, I've got a whole fictional universe going on with my wife #MyWife, but the two of us have been working on this shit together for the past.... decade now). So getting into Dragon Age and actually developing and really caring about the PCs I made for those games was actually very unexpected.
