Ellen Tiberino, daughter of Ellen Powell Tiberino and Joe Tiberino, distinguished visual artists from West Philly, continues the family legacy through her 15+ year career as an artist.

Describing working with stained glass to create mosaics as, "painting with glass", Ellen creates art to capture the earth's natural beauty. Ellen will expand on the inspiration for her work and discuss her family's museum in the heart of West Philly and her family history.

“UNIFYING THE CULTURES OF NEIGHBORHOOD IN PHILADELPHIA”

Lining the block of 15th Street between Arch and JFK, outside the Philadelphia Municipal Services building, is what was in 2012 intended to be the first of a series of temporary installations by various Philadelphia artists. Still on display four years later are 5 panels by Joe Tiberino, who passed away earlier this year at age 77, and son Gabe—two members of a family that has now been an active part of Philly’s art community for two generations. The family home on Hamilton Street is now a museum honoring the work of Joseph’s late wife Ellen who died in 1992, and has become a gathering place for artists, musicians, and dancers. For this installation, when asked to create a work about the culture of Philadelphia, Joe and Gabe chose to create a series about the ways Philly’s neighborhoods define the city of “brotherly love,” depicting a variety of community events and the diversity of Philadelphia’s people and places. @gtiberino @muralarts
