Frank Ticheli’s “Earth Song”

Renowned composer Frank Ticheli is conducting an ensemble at Texas All State, and he wrote two pieces to celebrate the TMEA Centennial. The first was premiered at the Second General session (I was in attendance) and was entitled “Sailing the Sky”. This is the second. It’s called “It All Begins With Music” and was written as an anthem for TMEA. The recording is all of the educators in attendance (myself included!) sight-reading it!

Shenendoah has a special place in my heart as one of the very few pieces I’ve played both on flute and on fife in a large ensemble.

The Connecticut Blues plays a version of Shenendoah arranged by the great John Benoit in one of our standard and most known medleys, “The Blue and the Grey.”
