Okay so when I read Ch1, I literally thought Dean would like hide away and then somehow Sam would get Cas and it would happen like that. But I love how in Ch2 you address the autonomy thing without making it too serious. It's so soft and sweet how Dean chooses to go to Cas and Cas is still considerate of it. While I know that it's all fun and games, the invasiveness of a truth spell always kind of bugged me, so I love how you deal with it here, and in 'yeah, you get what you need'

[Fic link: Speak Your Truth, Ch. 1 and Ch. 2] My boy has CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Season 15 Dean is ready to let loose some of that vulnerability, baby. But yeah, I’m with you on the invasiveness thing, and I am all about making things soft and sweet if possible!

Same anon as before. Sorry! I just wanted to ask, for someone who wants to get into writing fanfic, is there any advice you can give on getting characterization right in dialogue? Like with Dean's sarcasm or Sam's sass? They make your writing so much more vivid, but I personally have a harder time making my dialogue that alive and it often falls flat.

Man, idk if I have any good explanations here. It’s been too many years to be sure, but I think Dean’s voice was one of the first things that most drew me to his character. He’s just so delightfully pissy and gruff and funny and precious. Mostly, I figure out what I want him to express, immediately dismiss the most straightforward way to say it, work out an indirect phrasing instead, then replace one part with a simile and another with sarcasm and maybe another with petulance and irritation. It probably helps that I’m just a handful of years younger than Dean, so we’ve got similar turns of phrase in our native vocabulary. But basically, they can’t be my words - they’ve gotta be his.

I know your inbox is likely flooded, but I wanted to drop in and show you some love. I’ve been a huge fan of yours for so long and seeing you return was such a lovely surprise. You’re one of my all-time favorite writers. You have a way of putting readers in the moment and capturing emotion in its purest form (a gift, for our *ahem* interests). I have like pages of thoughts about why I admire you, but I don’t want to overwhelm. (also thanks for rbing my tua fics, it made my year) // @tickle-bugs

HELLO! Actually not flooded at all, I’m always pleased and excited to get a new message! And I loved your latest, Rumor Has It; I was very aware while reading it (admittedly while still half-asleep) that it was one of those special moments where the author plucked out just the right canon detail and turned it just so to create something absolutely delightful. Bravo and kudos to you. (Anybody who is familiar with The Umbrella Academy, do yourselves a favor and get to it.)

But listen, that “capturing emotion” thing – that’s, like, my holy grail. Getting confirmation that I’ve done that well makes me furiously happy. And one of my personal favorite flavors of it is that moment of locked-up panic. (Writing it, I mean, not feeling it.) Bubbly is a moment like that. A couple others that come to mind which I really enjoyed writing for that same reason are The Reverse French Mistake and Amateur Production: Kevin’s Arc. They’re just... fun.
